This program is made available through a special partnership with George Washington's Mount Vernon Estate and Gardens and the Oklahoma George Washington Teaching Ambassador Program.
Come enjoy a free concert of American music of the Colonial, Revolutionary and Federal periods with musical historian, David Hilderbrand. America's early music and history come to life with instruments, including the Baroque guitar, English guitar, harpsichord, and English and German flutes.

The Oklahoma History Center hosts Scout Days to honor all youth organizations and their members such as Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, Camp Fire, 4-H, and more. Members in uniform will be admitted to the History Center for just $1.00 per youth and $3.00 per adult.
Enjoy hands-on demonstrations. Discover life on the cattle drive, explore pioneer life and the tools of the day, play turn of the century games, and more! There will be activities for students of all ages. Special living history programs will take place each hour beginning at 10:00 a.m.
Be sure to wear your uniform!

The Oklahoma Historical Society Research Center invites you to attend this special workshop exploring resources for researching your American Indian heritage. Topics will include the Dawes Final Rolls of the Five Civilized Tribes, records of the Dawes Commission, and Plains & Woodland tribes.
Speakers include William D. Welge, Director of the OHS Research Division, as well as Sharron Ashton and Dr. Mary Jane Warde.
This program is from 9:30am to 4:00pm in the Oklahoma History Center classrooms; lunch is included. Registration is $40.

Ghostly Tours and Eerie Tales
George Murrell Home, Park Hill Friday, October 23rd and Saturday, October 24th First tour begins at 6:30 p.m. Last tour at 8:15 p.m.
Reenactors in period costume tell scary tales about the Murrell Home and eerie happenings. After the tales enjoy cider and cookies in the smokehouse. A donation of $5.00 per person is requested. Groups of ten or more must prepay. Reservations required. Not recommended for children under eight. Call

Rockabilly Night at the Oklahoma History Center An evening of music, fashion, fun and history will take place at the Oklahoma History Center on Friday, October 23. The evening will feature local Rockabilly bands and a unique fashion show sponsored by the Velvet Monkey Plaza Salon, Vintage Boutique, and others. Doors for the event will open at 6:30 pm and the music will start at 7:00 pm. Tickets at $10 each are available at all Velvet Monkey Salon locations and at the Oklahoma History Center. 75th Anniversary of the Indian Archives The Research Division of the Oklahoma Historical Society will celebrate the 75th anniversary of the acquisition of the Indian Archives on Thursday, October 29, and Friday, October 30. The two day event will feature a workshop, a reception, two paper sessions, and a luncheon. In addition to the individuals listed, the speakers and presenters will include Cherokee Chief Chad Smith, James Riding In, C. Blue Clark, Ph.D., Wendy St. Jean, Ph.D., Michael Lovegrove, Ph.D., Jack D. Baker, Rodger Harris, Gus Palmer, Henry Willis, Jay Hannah, Patricia Loughlin, Ph.D., Daniel Littlefield, Ph.D., David Baird, Ph.D., Ted Isham, Clyde Ellis, Mary Jane Warde, Ph.D., Tara Damron, Dennis Weidman, Ph.D., Ron Graham, and J. C. Elliott. Among topics to be covered in the various sessions are Chickasaws in Transition in the 19th Century, Douglas Johnston, Kiowa Language, Choctaw Language, Standard Oil in Indian Territory, Meta Chestnut Sager, Tribal Songs, Collecting Oral Traditions Through Oral History, The Native American Church, Researching Freedmen Records, and Donating Your Collection to the OHS Archives.

Visitation at the Oklahoma History Center In August, the Oklahoma History Center was visited by Oklahomans from 82 different towns and cities. In addition, individuals from 29 different states visited the History Center. The top five states for visitation, in addition to Oklahoma, were Texas, Kansas, Missouri, California, and Arkansas. We had additional visitors who did not give us their zip codes. The History Center also was visited by individuals from 11 foreign countries. The top five foreign countries for visitation were: El Salvador, Australia, Germany, Italy, and France. | |
