Imbibe Header

Hello to all those who Imbibe,

I hope you and your loved ones had a fun and safe Fourth of July; I know I did. My holiday was spent with family, friends and a few new wines that just rolled in a couple days ago. These are wines that not only over-deliver, but are a steal at the price and can be enjoyed throughout the rest of the summer.

2011 Graffigna Pinot Grigio Reserve

First up is a wine with highly focused fruit coming from a varietal rarely seen coming from Argentina, the 2011 Graffigna Pinot Grigio Reserve. With such a light body it is impressive with its vibrant fruit and soft acidity. This is the perfect summer drink for the warm Bakersfield days. Try this one with peach and pineapple slices for a tasty sangria. $11.99

2010 Tormaresca Chardonnay

Next up are two outstanding, but dramatically different Chardonnays, the 2010 Tormaresca and the 2011 Edna Valley. Due mainly to the fact that the Tormaresca hails from Italy, it displays a bright acidity with clean and crisp fruit. Loads of green apple and lemon help balance the touch of oak that lends a nice, subtle complimentary spice. Even more impressive is the 12.5% alcohol which makes for such a balance and easy drink. I'm constantly stupefied by the our inability in this state to produce wines that are not 15.5% alcohol butter bombs. Check this out for a refreshing new style of Chardonnay! $10.99

2011 Edna Valley Chardonnay

While the previous bottling is surely Old World style, the Edna Valley bottling shows many of the typical characteristics of great California Chardonnay. Bright peach, pear and ripe tropical notes mingle with caramel, clove and cinnamon. This wine is a smooth drink that comes from gentle winemaking. Winery price $15.50, Imbibe Price $12.99.

Now a little trip to the Southern Hemisphere to for two new exciting wines, the 2010 Peter Lehmann Layers Red and the 2011 Brancott Estate Sauvignon Blanc.

2010 Peter Lehmann Layers White

The Peter Lehmann Layers White is a blend of Semillon, Muscat, Gewurztraminer, Pinot Gris and Chardonnay. The Layers label is crafted to illustrate the idea that the whole is greater than the sum of its parts. This is a white wine with aromas of citrus and hints of peach. It has excellent structure and a soft creamy mouth feel, delightful depth and a finish that is wonderfully fresh. This is a wine best buy by many industry standards. $12.99

2011 Brancott Estate Sauvignon Blanc

The Brancott Sauv Blanc comes from the famed Marlborough region of New Zealand. This wine is amazingly fresh, combining bright, green grassy notes with lively grapefruit and hints of peach and melon. I enjoy the purity of this fruit-driven style wine. Wines like these are best consumed young, while the fruit flavors are fresh and the aromatics are lively. $10.99

And now a little something for the red wine lovers in the audience. A killer Chianti and a marvelous Malbec.

2010 Da Vinci Chianti

The 2010 Da Vinci Chianti is a well balanced wine of medium weight with jammy flavors of ripe plums, cherries and red fruit. This is a lively wine with a soft palate that lingers with a peppery finish. As with most Italian wines, this bottling pairs perfectly with all starters, pastas and meat dishes, and shows best during the summer when served slightly below room temperature. Here's a little free tip about red wines in hot weather. Pour your reds closer to cellar temperature (55-60˚F) to help mask the alcohol. $11.99

2010 Colome Estate Malbec

I saved the best for last, the 2010 Colome Estate Malbec. This wine is a Malbec based blend, with some Cabernet and Tannat. Being the signature red varietal of Argentina, Malbec excels in the warm dry climate, and produces exceptional wines with dark, spicy aromas and succulent texture. We made a special purchase on this wine; regular price on this wine is $29.99, while the best price we found in the Nation was $27.99. Imbibe price is $24.91 and if you buy by the six-pack, we'll shave an extra dollar off each bottle! This is easily the finest Malbec we carry at Imbibe. Swing by today and get yours!
