DanHello To All Those Who Imbibe,

I think almost everybody can get behind new beer releases and boy, have we got some great ones for you this week.  Be sure to stop and pick these up by the six pack because I can promise you that some of these won't last very long at all.

Stone Levitation Ale

 $10.99/6pk 12oz

Right off the bat this brew shows class. A monster three finger head that has really good retention. The color of the head is a light tan color that is foamy creamy, and bubbly. The color of the beer is a deep reddish cherry hue with garnet highlights. The clarity of the beer is near opaque, except there is some visibility. The head left a lot of lacing on the glass.  A very rich grapefruity, floral and lemon aromas followed and exploded in the mouth.. There are other aromas of toasted malt, phenols, and pine. There are notes of alcohol yeast, and phenols. The mouth feel is astringent, carbonated, and coating.

Overall  the body of the beer is medium and the finish is medium full. This Stone beer is done really well. Great flavor well balanced and very easy to drink. Cloudy amber colour with plenty of yeast deposits floating around. Minimal head.

Brasserie Dubuisson Cuvee de Trolls

$10.50/22oz

This is a naturally cloudy blond beer as it is unfiltered. The use of dried orange peel gives it a slightly sweet, fruity ale taste, with a delicate bitter flavour and an enchanting fullness .  Spicy apple and passionfruit and maybe pineapple (very fruity!) Touch of lime as well.  Sweet and mild at first. Highly carbonated but with little of that coming through on the palate - most of the sensation is limited to the nose and the aftertaste. Sweet fruits as well - same as smell; mostly apple and passionfruit/pineapple. Strangely acidic but with an odd malty coating that starts from first taste.  Should be spicy and vibrant but actually it's fairly mild (due to the malty coating). Aftertaste is fairly acidic. Lovely and pleasant to drink. Definitely unusual and a good aperitif/pre-dinner drink.

Firestone Brewing Abacus Barley Wine

$14.99/22 oz

This is a super dark red almost brown, but more purple than brown appearance. Not much of a head, it  dissipated rather quickly.  You smell some bourbon, but more vanilla and oak notes with some chocolate mixed in between. Also some spices were present, but they didn't dominate over anything else, everything seemed to mess very well together. This is an awesome roller coaster ride of flavors. It starts out very clean and simple and then just progresses and get more intense as it goes across the entire tongue. There is dark fruit, chocolate, vanilla, and a lot of oak flavor with what could be described as leather. For being 13% you can feel the strength, but it's not something that overly burns the tongue, its quiet delicate and balanced while still being very complex.   For being a bourbon barrel aged is has a decent about of carbonation, its low to mild, I think the perfect amount. And it's on the thicker side, but an easy drink nonetheless, it's also very warming, great for the cold late winter/ early spring day it was.  For being 13% this is a masterpiece, I think this is a great example from Firestone.
