Greetings!

Hi,

While we missed a freeze last night, the forecast for tonight is for a low of 29F and I feel comfortable with that forecast.  That freeze will bring an end to our growing season.  Normally the growing season ends at Magicland Farms around October 1. The last frost in spring was April 29, while the normal last frost in spring is normally May 15.  This means our growing season this year was almost three weeks longer than normal! The problem with apples (and other fruit) this year was the fact they started blooming in March because of the March heat wave this year instead of  mid May, which is normal.  As I remember from past years, apples are in full bloom at Magicland Farms around May 16.  This year, they were already starting to bloom on March 16!  While our growing season will come to an end, we will still have tomatoes, peppers and eggplant available this week because we cleaned up these crops late last week.  We even picked green tomatoes which we plan on ripening inside and we hope to have them available for about two more weeks.  We also picked beans so we should have some available on Monday and perhaps on Tuesday.  Our winter squash, pumpkins, radishes, rutabaga and potatoes won't be damaged so we will continue to have these available through the rest of the month.  Our sweet corn is done for the year, although we will have popcorn and Indian corn available.
