Greetings!
Welcome to the Magicland Farms' newsletter for the week beginning August 26. We hope to keep you up to date with the happenings at our farm, along with providing you with some of our favorite recipes and other information we think you might find of interest. If you know of someone who might be interested in receiving our newsletter, you can forward it to them by using the forward link at the end of this newsletter.
Boss's Corner Hi, We will be open Labor Day (Monday September 3rd) as usual, from 10AM to 7PM. This year we will have an excellent supply of top quality (perfect ripeness) bi-color sweet corn this week, over the Labor Day weekend and most of the following week. This corn will be of the Mirai sweet corn which will be nice and sweet at least 3 days after you buy it if you keep it at room temperature--twice as long if you keep it refrigerated. Of course, if you can or freeze corn it will keep for much, much longer. Our special bushel price for this delicious sweet corn is $10 a bushel--(a bushel of this corn contains at least 3 dozen ears). Keep in mind that frozen cut off sweet corn is delicious when added to tacos, corn bread, chili and salsa. It also is a superior side dish for spaghetti, pizza and any barbecued food. By the way, while we will have plenty of corn the next 10 days and in addition we will have three other patches coming after this, our supply will rapidly go down after September 6 and we won't have any more special quantity deals the rest of the season. That's an absolute guarantee! In addition to lots of corn for the Labor Day weekend, we will have lots of watermelon--both seeded and seedless. We are now announcing a special low price for our medium sized seeded (from about 12 to 17 pounds each) watermelon--$2 each. We also are now picking our acorn, heart-of-gold and vegetable spaghetti winter squash. Our winter squash is priced at 39 cents a pound. In addition we will be picking pumpkins this week(small, medium, large and giant) and hope to have them displayed at the stand by Friday. Keep in mind we are just starting to pick our pumpkins and winter squash and by the end of September you won't recognize our stand since it, and the surrounding area, will be overflowing with these fall decorative and tasty goodies!

From the Kitchen
Freezing Watermelon Step 1
Cut off the rind with a large knife, and remove as many of the seeds as possible.
Step 2
Cut the fruit into slices or cubes, or use a melon baller to make balls out of the fresh fruit. Remove any additional seeds that you can during this step.
Step 3
Place the fruit on a baking sheet and place it in the freezer until the fruit freezes. This is just to harden the fruit a bit before you place it into better storage containers.
Step 4
Remove the baking sheet from the freezer and place the fruit into an airtight container. Freezer bags and resealable kitchen containers work, as do vacuum-sealed packs. Place these back into the freezer and the watermelon should keep for eight to 12 months. If you opt for resealable containers, leave about a half inch of space at the top so that the fruit can expand.
