Greetings!
Boss Corner For June 17, 2012 This past week's yard sale was a success! While it was a busy place all three days, Saturday was especially busy reminding us a bit like it is at Magicland Farms in mid-summer when we have sweet corn, tomatoes, beans and on and on. On Saturday the yard sale came to a happy, although early, end when it started raining around 4 PM. We have been trying to water our best all week since the intense sun and very dry air were combining to create intense stress on all our crops and the rain was very welcome. (At most, we can only water a couple of acres at a time.) We estimate we received around two thirds of an inch rain in total, with some rain coming in the middle of the night. Last week was the last week for garlic scapes and this week will be the last week for peas. What's new this week? We have started digging our new red potatoes and pulling beets and toward the end of the week we will start picking our zucchini and yellow summer squash. We are still harvesting Bibb and Freckles (an heirloom) lettuce and kohlrabi. In addition to fresh produce we have potted flowers, both perennial and annuals including: a large supply of potted Ostrich ferns hardy pecan trees (were grown from a source of pecans from Wisconsin) Morning Glories Ostrich Ferns - perfect for shady areas Nasturtiums Angel's Trumpet Balsam Impatiens Hollyhocks Purple Coneflowers (Echinacea) Nigella (Love in a Mist) Celosia Peony Poppies Blue Ripple Sweet Peas Livingstone Daisy Ageratum Kolkwitzia shrub Disco Belle Hibiscus shrub American Bittersweet vine Vegetable and Herb plants including: Tomatoes Tomatillos Cucumbers Zucchini & Yellow Summer Squash Muskmelon Peas Basil Chives Sage Parsley Also, June 28th is the last date when you can enter our First Sweet Corn contest and win a $10 Magicland Farms Gift Certificate.
