Hi! Well, I put all the new weather info into the Sweet Corn
Planning Scheduler software and it forecast a ripening date of July 9th. Well, it goofed. The correct answer is July 11th. However, since we are closed on all Sundays
and July 11th is a Sunday, the first date we will be selling corn
this year will be July 12th. Now here is a secret many of you know about already. While we are theoretically closed on Sundays,
we usually put Saturday's leftover corn, beans and some other vegetables out on
the red picnic table that is beneath an ash tree. Since we are on self-serve, there is a slot in the market to put your
money. The price of our leftover, day old corn is usually below any corn in supermarkets
and, no doubt, several days fresher as well. Keep this in mind! THERE WON'T BE
ANY CORN AVAILABLE ON JULY 10TH OR JULY 11TH and there likely will be some Sundays when
there won't be any leftover corn! Why did the smart Sweet Corn Planning Scheduler goof? Simple, we put in the wrong growing degree data
for our first corn, which is called Fastlane (another secret revealed!). Apparently the data should be 1215 and not
1165. If we use 1215 the software spits
out July 11th, which is the right answer! Next year we will use 1215! (By the way, this growing degree data is hard
to find for most varieties of corn, including Fastlane ,so we had to take an
educated guess with the info we discovered from last year's cool summer.) Hope to see most of you on July 12th. However, there are so many people now on our
email list that if everybody on it came down and bought a dozen ears of corn we
would have to pick 40 bushels just to supply the demand. This seems unlikely on Monday but by the end
of the week it should be a snap! Nashle! Tom
