A Continuation of the Great Cmolik Driving Adventure!
From June to July, Innkeepers Russ and Ellen Cmolik travelled from China to Mongolia – experiencing unique places including Beijing and Shanghai, Lanzhou to Three Camel Lodge, ending in Ulaan Baatar. From nomadic herding and tenting in the Gobi dessert, trekking through sand dunes and riding camels, horseback riding in Canyons, traditional wedding ceremonies for which milk is sacrificed, hot rock BBQ’s and milking goats – Ellen and Russ will have plenty of stories to share!! After two months of life-changing adventurous travels, this marks the end of Part One!
During this week’s break back home in Canada - these distinguished travelers prepare for Part Two of the Great Cmolik Adventure beginning August 12 in Ulaan Baatar, which will then lead the group from Krasnoyarsk to Ekaterinburg and lastly Riga. Giant Landscape: British Columbia Landscape Exhibition
Giant Landscape, drawn from the Art Gallery of Greater Victoria's collection, examines how landscape imagery functions in British Columbia art. It explores how approaches to the monumental and richly varying topography have changed from the romantic visions of early visitors to the region to interpretations by those living here such as Emily Carr, Fred Varley, E.J. Hughes, Sybil Andrews, and B.C. Binning. These works reflect the energy and beauty of the province through symbolism, emotional exploration, and abstraction.

Historic Harbour Ferry Tours
Journey back in time this Summer and take an historic guided tour of Victoria's harbour. The Maritime Museum of B.C., in partnership with Victoria Harbour Ferries, will offer two 1 1/2 hour tours daily, departing from the Harbour Ferry wharf across from the Empress Hotel.
