| Thanks TEAM Volunteers... | | ...for helping with the airport disaster drill. | |
I wanted to take a moment to thank all the TPG volunteers that got up so early to assist with the airport disaster drill.
The triennial Airport Crash Exercise was completed by noon and lunch was catered by Dean's South of the Border. We had volunteers playing "injured, uninjured and deceased" roles while awaiting the emergency responders to a simulated airliner crash. Team Punta Gorda partnered with the Civil Air Patrol and turned out about 50 volunteer play-acting "passengers" on a crashed MD-80 airliner. This simulation tested the emergency responders to the "crash scene." It was a realistic exercise and challenged the emergency responders to utilize their extensive training procedures. If you were an observer of the exercise, you probably were left with the same impression I had -- pride in living in Punta Gorda and Charlotte County. Again, thank you to all the volunteers for your time in accomplishing this community event.
