6th Annual Tournament . . .

. . . a Huge Success!
Golf Tourney 2011

TPG president Tom Kerr,  Houghty Wetherald, Jack Sanner & Bill Smith enjoy the day

Thanks to everyone who participated in the 6th Annual TEAM Punta Gorda Golf Tournament.  This is the major fundraiser of the year for our organization and the proceeds help support all the projects and activities of TPG.

We had a full field on Saturday, April 2, when 100 golfers teed off at St. Andrews South Golf Club to compete for excellent prizes.  Sorry to report there were no hole-in-one winners this year, so the car and the weekend retreats went unclaimed.

A great luncheon, followed by the award presentations and the raffles, provided hearty entertainment for the golfers.  Our heartfelt thanks go out to our individual hole sponsors and our overall tournament and prize sponsors.  Photos will be up on our website soon.
More Thanks!

TEAM to Recognize Volunteers

2010 Vol Recept 1

Naomi with a few of TPG's voluneers

Volunteers make up the workforce of TPG.  Each year a special recognition reception is held in their honor
.

This year Chair Naomi Gazzola has a special evening cocktail reception planned at the
historic Old Train Depot downtown. Our volunteers are called upon to staff most of the events that take place in our town and they
do so with pride and pleasure.  The reception is Thursday, April 14 at 5 p.m.

Tree Planting Event Ctr
When you attend functions at the Event Center, you will notice beautiful trees have been added.  Thanks to funds raised from the sale of personalized engraved pavers, TPG was able to procure and donate six royal palms.

Look around the town on your next walk and admire all the flowering Hibiscus, Allamandas, day lilies and palms.  These lovely plantings are made possible by YOU . . . that is, if you bought a paver to help fund our beautification projects.

Want to have your name carved in stone?  Honor your mom on Mother's Day by dedicating a paver to her.  Or how about one with your dog's name on it?  Remember, Laishley Park is a dog-friendly park and what better place to have the pup's name displayed?

Visit our website to buy your paver today.  www.teampuntagorda.org

Yellow Bike Alert!

New Bicycles Arrive at CRMC

It was a day to celebrate when brand-spanking-new, yellow loaner bicycles were delivered to the Charlotte Regional Medical Center (CRMC).  On hand for the delivery were Collette Rambo, CRMC Fitness Instructor; Gene Pawlowski, TEAM Punta Gorda Bike Loaner Program; Keith Currier, Director of CRMC Rehab Services; Jim Norton, CRMC Wellness Center; Nancy Prafke, TEAM Punta Gorda CEO; and Jose Morillo, CRMC CEO of the hospital, and Marianne Lilly, donor.

Many thanks to Marianne Lilly (Remax/Harbor Realty), who provided funding for two of the four bicycles and CRMC who purchased one bicycle and one tricycle.

CHNEP Wants Your Artwork

Competition for 2012 Calendar is Under Way

Egret

Let's face it, we live in a beautiful tropical paradise and many of you have captured this beauty in your artwork. Since 2005, the  Charlotte Harbor National Estuary Program (CHNEP)  has produced calendars that capture this beauty as seen through your eyes.

The CHNEP is a partnership program working to protect the natural environment of Florida from Venice to Estero Bay to Winter Haven. Visit their website www.CHNEP.org for contest submission information.  The deadline is July 14.

City to Start Major Construction Project . . .

. . . on Bal Harbor

 Generic road

Now that the raising and widening of Aqui Esta is completed, another road project is set to begin.  The disruption in traffic this time will be along Bal Harbor Blvd. from Aqui Esta to Olympia Avenue.

Sewer and utility work will cause traffic delays once again, so get ready to add travel time to your trip.   By now, most of us know the flagmen by name!

TPG has made a request to the City to install markers identifying the organization volunteering to maintain a designated park or right-of-way for its Adopt-A-Lot program.

A suggested design will be put forth and presented to the City Council for approval.

If you belong to an organization that would like to adopt a lot, please let us know.

We're proud to announce that TEAM Port Charlotte is organized and ready to roll.  After the County hosted a series of charrettes to gain input on a medical district overlay encompassing Fawcett, Peace River and other medical buildings, a Citizens' Master Plan is finally evolving.  Just like TEAM Punta Gorda, working with the City of Punta Gorda, the citizens of this area have the support of the County to move forward to remove blight and restore the area to a people-friendly district.

Kudos to CEO Nancy Prafke for sharing TPG's game plan which helped them get organized.
