 | Pedal and Play in Paradise - Phenomenal! |
| | |
Saturday, March 19, was a gorgeous day to get on a bicycle and ride 62 miles or just around a few blocks in Punta Gorda.
Over 350 bicycle enthusiasts descended upon Laishley Park to join in a variety of great biking experiences. Organizers were ecstatic over the larger-than-expected turnout, proving again, that Punta Gorda is a great destination for recreation, good food, and friendly people. Thanks to everyone who participated!
Pedal and Play in Paradise was hosted by TEAM Punta Gorda in association with the Isles Yacht Club to benefit the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society and TPG's bicycle-friendly community initiatives. |
 | Mark Twain said . . . |
| | |
. . . Age is an issue of mind over matter. If you don't mind, it doesn't matter. You can hear many other famous sayings of Mark Twain this Thursday, March 24, at the Charlotte Harbor Event Center. The show is a benefit for the Punta Gorda Historical Mural Society to pay for the new murals on the Charlevoi Condos. Tickets are only $35 and can be purchased at the Event Center or the Punta Gorda Chamber of Commerce. Wine, beer and hors d'oeuvres, as well as entertainment by the All-American Banjo Duo will lead into a classic performance of wit and satire by Ned Johnson as Mark Twain. The event starts at 6 p.m. |

City Council Actions
The proposed Storm Surge Marker program has been deep-sixed. Because of feedback from community and business groups, the idea proposed by Charlotte County Emergency Management will not happen. The majority of you did not feel the markers were warranted or needed. Thanks for taking the time to call in with your opinions. |

 | Peace River Wildlife Center. . . |
| | |
. . . Kept our Eagle Soaring You may remember when one of our Olympia Avenue eagles was grounded by some sort of poison. Coming to the rescue was the Peace River Wildlife Center located at the end of Ponce de Leon Parkway. Thanks to their superb care, our eagle recovered and was successfully returned to his mate. Now the center needs you! Their benefit dinner/dance and auction is in peril of being cancelled. They need donations for their silent auction, but more importantly, they need YOU to attend. Charlotte Harbor Yacht Club is the venue, Captain Josh and Banjody is the entertainment, and April 9 is the date. Tickets are $50 per person. Please contact PRWC at 941-916-3250 or visit their website for a tour of their facility and read about how important their work is. Without community support, the center will not survive. www.peaceriverwildlifecenter.com |
