On Thursday, December 16, Sunloft Center held a special celebration to announce the names of five new occupants who will move into the center.  Drum roll, please!

Occupying spaces on the second floor will be the office of  Joseph R. Schortz, CPA, PLLC; and the office of Brian W. Crosland, CPA, PL.

Spago Day Spa and Medispa will fill the east side of the third floor, and The Weiler Engineering Corporation will occupy the west side.

The ground floor space at the corner of Marion and Sullivan will house Table 209's OPUS Restaurant and Lounge, an upscale chop house-style restaurant.  The current Table 209 location will remain open offering New Orleans-style cuisine.
Building BOOMS!

Good news!  This year-to-date saw 38 permits for new construction of single family homes.  That is up from 12 permits in 2009 with a value of $3.8 million.  This year's value? A whopping $12 million.  Punta Gorda is a very desirable location.

The new floating day docks at Laishley Park are under construction.  Target date for opening is mid-January.  You can dock your boat free of charge for the day.

7-Eleven at Bal Harbor and Aqui Esta has seen a flurry of activity.  The interior has been completely revamped, the parking lot repaved, and landscaping has been added around the site.  Anticipated opening date is before the end of December.

The Punta Gorda Historical Mural Society is ready to start painting "The Hotel Punta Gorda" mural featuring seven famous guests.  Do you know who they are?

All murals are paid for through fundraising activities throughout the year.  TEAM Punta Gorda donated a paver to help with their efforts.

Artist Charles Peck will paint the southwest wall of the Charlevoi Condominiums overlooking Charlotte Harbor now that the scaffolding is in place.  Stop by, say hello, and offer him encouragement while he paints.

The beach area at Gilchrist Park never looked better.  Thanks to 50 volunteers from the Punta Gorda Boaters Alliance, debris, overgrowth and weeds were removed from the beach area in the park.

The Alliance is comprised numerous local boating clubs.  The cleanup effort was led by Marilyn and Murray Thorndycraft.

The project was another example of citizens working in partnership with the City to keep Punta Gorda looking beautiful.

Baby, It's Cold Outside!
Heater Safety Tips from Your Fire Department

Space Heaters

Ø       Space heaters need space. Keep all things that can burn - such as paper, bedding or furniture - at least 3 feet away from heating equipment.

Ø       Make sure the space heater has an emergency shut off in case it is tipped over.

Ø       Plug electric-powered space heaters into an outlet with sufficient capacity and never into an extension cord.

Ø       Use the proper grade of fuel for a liquid-fuel space heater. Refuel only in a well-ventilated area and when the equipment is cool.

Ø       Turn off space heaters whenever the room they are in is unoccupied

General Home-Heating Tips

Ø       Do not use an oven to heat a home.

Ø       To make sure deadly carbon monoxide does not build up in the home, make sure fuel-burning equipment is vented to the outside, the venting is kept clear and unobstructed, and the exit point is sealed properly around the vent.

Ø       Inspect all heating equipment annually, and clean as necessary.

Ø       Smoke alarms should be installed in every bedroom, outside all sleeping areas, and on every level of the home. Alarms should be tested monthly and interconnected (when one alarm sounds, they all sound).

Ø       A carbon monoxide alarm should be installed in a central location outside each sleeping area.
