Punta Gorda wins "Bicycle-Friendly Community of the Year"
The Florida Bicycle Association presented its prestigious "Bicycle-Friendly Community of the Year" award to the City of Punta Gorda in recognition of the city's efforts to create a pedestrian- and bicycle-friendly community.

Cyclists

Among the many reasons Punta Gorda was selected, includes the bicycle loaner program operated jointly by TEAM and the city of Punta Gorda. The bike loaner program now has 17 bicycles located at Fishermen's Village, the Sheraton and Laishley Marina. A special thank you goes out to the recent donors who helped us expand the fleet:   Re/Max  Anchor Realty Sifrit & Dees Team, Punta Gorda Sailing Club, Carolyn French and Tyler Swanson, PGI Newcomers' Club, and Four Points by Sheraton.  Punta Gorda is the only city in Florida that offers such a program and new sponsors are welcome!  It's $300 for a bicycle and $400 for a tricycle and tax-deductible.
The Downtown Merchants Association is looking for artists...

Thanks to the generosity of many who have purchased TEAM pavers, a number of beautification projects  --- such as the trees near the interactive fountain in Laishley Park --- have been completed.  We have several other such projects in mind including the addition of landscaping around the  planned "Welcome to Punta Gorda" signs on US 41 at the north entrance to the city.

Community Gardens Project

In collaboration with a number of community groups, TEAM volunteers are excited to be creating community gardens in Punta Gorda.  Whether growing veggies or flowers, the goal of a community garden is to use vacant property in a productive manner.

The first such garden will be located at the South County Regional Park and is scheduled to in full swing by the Fall.  For more information contact TEAM at 637-8326 or by email at TEAM@teampuntagorda.org.
