South County Gateway Project

Charlotte County, the City of Punta Gorda, and TEAM Punta Gorda have joined together to work on creating a land development regulation in the areas of signage, landscaping, etc., that will give a better appearance when driving into the county and city. The group will meet this Friday to come up ideas and plans to get input from the citizens at a meeting in the future. We'll keep you posted.

Did you know...

...that if you act quickly, you can go to the city's website at
www.ci.punta-gorda.fl.us/depts/growthmgmt/zoning.html to take a survey that the city has developed to help them in determining the citizens' feelings with regard to temporary signage for businesses inside and outside of the downtown district. There will be an open meeting this Friday, January 8, at the PGI Civic Association beginning at 10 a.m.

...that the Blanchard House Museum will hold their Fourth Annual Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Breakfast on Saturday, January 16 from 8  to 10 a.m. at the Punta Gorda Middle School? They will be honoring Mrs. Shushila Cherian, Mrs. Margaret Spann, and Rev. Dr. Carl Brooks. Call 941-575-7518 for tickets.

...that the Charlotte Harbor Regatta is scheduled for February 5 to 7, and will bring several hundred sailing enthusiasts to our area? They are in need of volunteers in all areas of the regatta. Each volunteer receives a t-shirt and a meal on the day you work! If you are interested, please contact Brian Gleason at bglesun@gmail.com. You'll have a fun day. They are hoping that this will become an annual event.

...that Nancy Prafke, TEAM's CEO, writes a column in The Charlotte Sun which runs during the last week of the month?

...that Punta Gorda was listed in the January/February edition of Florida Travel Life Magazine as one of the top 52 weekend destinations in the state of Florida? The focus was on Culinary Tourism and we all know how great our restaurants and other businesses are!

...that RSW Living (Regional Southwest Florida's Lifestyle Magazine) also had a Spotlight on Punta Gorda article in their January/February magazine? The emphasis was on Riverfront Revival after the destruction of Hurricane Charley.

...Punta Gorda is listed on the website, Roadside America, as a place that has interesting history? Log on to www.roadsideamerica.com and search Punta Gorda, FL, and you will see articles on the Military Museum and Ponce de Leon Park.
