Welcome to our May 2009 IMPULSE, using Constant Contact for the first time.
This might take some figuring out, but I think it will be okay once we become more familiar with the formatting.

Bikes and Brunch on Saturday, May 16
We will be leaving Acme Bicycle Shop in the Cross Trails Center at 9 a.m. Please come a little early to register. As usual, we take a leisurely ride and will be stopping at Cafe Ruelle Too at the Darkwood Center, Peace River Wildlife, Papillon and Lupe's Taco. Helmets are required. Please come and enjoy this friendly group. There is a $5.00 donation in support of TEAM Punta Gorda. A special thank you to the four sponsors of this Saturday's ride.

Great Volunteer Reception
Thanks to Naomi Gazzola and Kathy Dieke and their committee for a delightful Volunteer Reception at the PGICA Pavilion. We recognized outgoing Board members Anna Callwood, Rex Koch, Jill McCrory, Marilyn Thomas and outgoing Operating Committee members Georgette Sibbio and Bill Welsch.
If you missed our volunteer reception, then you should consider becoming a volunteer in 2009 and you will be invited next year. You won't be sorry you did! |

Begin thinking about joining TEAM on a 15-mile bicycle ride for the Hibiscus Bicycle event on June 20. Bring your friends for this no-spandex ride. You'll have a great time! Pre-registration is strongly advised. We're already receiving registrations daily. For the more serious bicyclist, there's also a 62-mile (metric century) and a 30-mile ride. If you'd rather go for a much slower ride on your bicycle, the popular 7-mile City Manager's ride is for you. For more information or to download a registration form simply click here.

A visit to Darkwood Center
If you are into art and music, this will be the place for you to visit. What fun. There are several businesses; i.e. pottery, painters, aromatherapists, luthiers, and music teachers, that spend their days there. Also, Cafe Ruelle Too has set up an area to relax with friends to hear music. They are located off Route 41 North before the Ice House.
| Honorable Mention
The League of American Bicyclists has bestowed an Honorable Mention recognition to the City of Punta Gorda as a Bicycle Friendly Community. An application had been submitted by the City of Punta Gorda, the Peace River Riders Bicycle Club, and TEAM Punta Gorda back in March. This, hopefully, will encourage bicyclists to visit Punta Gorda and enjoy our city. Thanks to our Spokes and Trails committee for their input. |
Have you seen the garage?
The garage looks great and the cars are waiting to park. It won't be long now before we can enjoy expanded parking and shopping in downtown Punta Gorda. |

Sheraton Four Points Opening
You must have seen the beautiful building and landscaping as you drive to Port Charlotte from Punta Gorda. The Sheraton Four Points Hotel will be opening the end of May. A great thank you to Jose Suriol and his associates and builders for keeping our suggestions in mind during construction. What a great addition to downtown and a super place to send our visitors.

Interactive Fountain at Laishley Park
You must visit the Interactive Fountain and consider purchasing a commemorative paver from TEAM Punta Gorda. The City will be having their ribbon cutting upon the fountain's completion and you'd be proud if your commemorative paver is located nearby for all to see. You'll feel like a kid when you run through the water on a hot summer day! TEAM is assisting the city providing landscaping enhancements with fundraising money from the sale of the pavers. Click here to visit the TEAM website for more information and an order form.

Redfish Tournament
Thank you to all of the volunteers, under the direction of Georgette Sibbio, who worked the three-day Redfish Tournament at Laishley Park. I'm sure they had as much fun as the participants and on-lookers, but were working at the same time.

| Charlotte Harbor Regatta
A sailing regatta in Charlotte Harbor is being planned for early 2010. At
this stage, only the event is being worked on. If you might be
interested in participating on this committee, please contact the TEAM
office. You do not have to be a sailor or participate in the regatta.

Remember:
Think Thursday in Punta Gorda. There are so many things to do.
The Farmers Market is open every Saturday from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. near Herald Court on Taylor Road. Aside from the great cheese you can taste from Pressellers and vegetables and soup and cupcakes, there will be a new vender selling dried fruits and nuts. Also, the Bailey's Butcher Shop will be arriving next week. There will also be new crafters selling wooden roses, wood plaques and cartoons. New vendors are always welcome. Contact Jerry Presseller at 941-639-3990 if you are interested. Come and enjoy the fun and food.
This is the best time of year for year-round residents in Punta Gorda and Port Charlotte. We have the advantage of great things to do, great restaurants to eat in and great shops to browse and purchase gifts and less people to compete with. Our businesses need our support, especially this year, in times of economic trouble. Let's show them that we care and want them to stay open for our benefit and theirs.
