EVENING WORKSHOP

Thursday, October 28

6:30pm-9:30pm

Location: Educational Alliance

197 East Broadway (Lower East Side)

F train to East Broadway, 2 blocks from station

This is a photo of my cat, Harriet, doing what she does for most of the day, every day:  rest and relax.  Would you like to learn to be this relaxed, and to experience a greater degree of calm and tranquility on a regular basis?

Do you suffer from difficulty sleeping or relaxing, low energy, poor digestion, chronic aches and pains, anxiety and worry, or lack of focus?

The Seva Stress Release can help!

At this evening workshop you'll learn the entire Seva Stress Release, a profoundly effective self-care acupressure technique for calming the body, mind, emotions, and spirit.  It's easy to learn, takes only 10-15 minutes, and can be used in almost any setting.

Benefits include relaxation and better nervous system regulation, improved sleep & digestion, decreased anxiety, and enhanced focus.  This workshop will give you a resource you can use for the rest of your life.

I invite you to join me for this fun evening workshop -- no note taking required!  (You will receive a manual with all the information you need.)  I will teach you to locate acupressure points, perform a complete Seva Stress Release session on yourself, and deepen your mind-body awareness for improved well being.

Anxiety, depression, insomnia, chronic pain, allergies, digestive problems, auto-immune conditions and inflammatory diseases (including heart disease) all may be improved by learning to manage your stress better.

Can you spare a few minutes a day to have greater ease in your life and health?  You deserve it!

Thank you for a very moving and wonderful class--I can already feel more relaxed!  I love having such a fun and easy way to help myself with the stresses of daily life.

--Michelle, 44, musician, parent & administrator

Workshop is $49 with advanced registration. To register, call Les-Ann at the Educational Alliance: 646.395.4081.

ARE YOU WALKING BAREFOOT ENOUGH? adline
It's autumn now, and we're really back to business, focused and enmeshed in all the things that make our everyday lives tick.  This can be energizing, especially if we're doing things we enjoy, that make us feel productive, engaged with life and contributing to our lives, our communities, and the world.  I hope this is true for you in your life.

But do you ever feel like something's missing, like you've momentarily forgotten who you are or what you're doing?  I have to admit, this does happen to me, even in the midst of doing work I love, meeting incredible people and constantly learning new things.  And yes, even with a daily qigong practice, time out for breathing and exercise, and all that good stuff.

Last week I got some insight into what is really going on when this "land of the lost" feeling comes over me.  My husband, Anthony, plays guitar in an indie rock band called "Barefoot Walking."  Last Saturday they celebrated the release of their first CD, a new website, and the video they shot over the summer.  It was a super fun night, full of great music and friends.

I am so proud and in awe of Anthony (and the rest of the band) for making the commitment to prioritize their creative lives in the midst of a slew of other (some also creative) activities that occupy their time and energy.  Even the name of the band, "Barefoot Walking" reminds me of a loose, creative place, of taking my shoes off and letting my toes meander and explore.

Anthony has a job he loves, close family and friends, he roller blades several times a weeks, gardens on our terrace... you get the picture.  He's got a full life.  But when he's not playing music or writing songs, he's a little lost, and he seems bereft.  When he's in the music groove, he's on his game, he's his fullest self, he's a joy to be around.

What a great model!  Watching Anthony grow and flourish with the band made me notice that recently, I've neglected my own creative passions.  Last month was so busy that I took a break from my swing dance class, and stopped working on the cartoon novel that was fueling my artistic juices for several months.  I missed them!  They're fun, they make me laugh, they stretch my brain and body in new directions--in short, they give me a sense of flow and connection to my creative source that cascades over to all the other areas of my life.

So, this month, I've changed my schedule to return to dancing, and am making time to draw at least a couple of times a week, even if just for a short time.  I think of this as my own way of "barefoot walking."

What sets your creative energy in motion?  Are you doing it regularly?  If not, how can you work it into your life in a way that will support your whole being?  You don't have to be a musician or artist to be creative.  You can be creative in the kitchen, with how you interact with family and friends, or any number of other ways.  The important thing is to keep the creative channels open!
