Recent Work by MXM

www.mosaicsbymichele.comMXM recently completed a 4'x7"x7" fireplace mantel.

Since the mantel was going on a stone fireplace, we wanted it to have an organic look and feel about it.   It was designed to look like the layers of the earth and is made of fossils, marble, stone, agates, and tempered glass.  Click here to see more images.

www.mosaicsbymichele.com
After a whopping 229,764 corks (that's a lot of wine!) and 27 days of hard work, artist Saimir Strati achieved his goal on September 4, 2008 when he earned the record for the World's Largest Cork Mosaic. The magnificent Mediterranean scene called Romeo with a crown of grapes playing the guitar while dancing with the sea and the sun, measures a commanding two stories high and over 40 feet long.  To view a larger image click here.

Ask an Expert
Q - What is a tessarae?

A - the plural of "tessera," a name given to a piece used in a mosaic. Originally tessera were the cubes of stone used in ancient classical mosaics, but now the term is used for pieces of any kind of mosaic material, whether they are ceramic, stone, pebbles, glass or some other substance.
