Greetings! Don
December seems to be very hectic with the changing weather and the hustle and bustle of the holidays. At this time, we would like to pause to take a minute to wish all of you Happy Holidays and peace in the new year. |
 | Holiday Decoration Safety
|
|
Safety can be a dull topic, but it is so important, especially at this time of the year. The last place we want you to spend the holidays is in the Emergency Room. Here are some simple and practical tips for holiday decoration safety.
- Choose fire resistant artificial trees or fresh (not dried out) live trees. Keep live trees well watered at all times. Keep trees away from heat sources, fireplaces, walkways and doorways.
- Use only quality and safety tested lights. Check all lights and change damaged or burned out bulbs before using. Do not use outdoor lights near power lines. Turn off all lights when you are not home. Do not overload extension cords. Plug outdoor lights into GFCI outlets (remember when we talked about those in the October issue?).
- Use only fire resistant and non-combustable decorations on the tree. Use plastic tinsle and not the old fashioned ones made from lead. Never use lighted candles on your tree. Keep breakable or choking hazard decorations away from small children.
