Teachers invited to "Serve Up" Florida Agriculture Education at Workshop
Teachers in pre-kindergarten through 12th grade
learn new, real-life applications for your language arts, math, science and
social studies lessons while enjoying a beachfront resort this summer. Florida
Agriculture in the Classroom has scheduled its 2010 State Teacher and Volunteer
Workshop for June 17-19 at the TradeWinds Beach Resort on St. Petersburg Beach.
It's only
$170 if you share another room with a teacher attending the workshop, which
includes two nights lodging, most meals and materials. And you'll earn

Two Teachers Win 2010 Excellence in Teaching about Agriculture Award
A Central Florida elementary
teacher and a Tampa
Bay area middle school
teacher have won Florida Agriculture in the Classroom's 2010 Excellence in
Teaching about Agriculture Award. John
Chybion, a science teacher of kindergarten through sixth grade students at Endeavor Elementary
Magnet School in Cocoa
won the elementary and overall Florida
level. He has taught his students about the importance of Florida agriculture with schoolyard
hydroponics garden funded with a grant from Florida Agriculture in the
Classroom.
Dianna
Bone, a sixth grade science teacher at Electa
Lee Magnet
Middle School in Bradenton, won for the middle school level.
She teaches her students about farming by having them become farmers themselves
in an activity in which they join a cooperative and make decisions about the
crops they will produce, among other activities. They will
be honored at Florida Agriculture in the Classroom's 2010 State Teacher and
Volunteer Workshop "Serving Up Florida Agriculture Education" June 17-19 at the
TradeWinds Beach Resort on St. Petersburg Beach and at the National Agriculture
in the Classroom Conference "Pioneers of Ag: Sailing into the Future" June
24-26 in Baltimore.

FAITC Funds 33 Teacher Grants for 2009-2010 School Year  Florida Agriculture in the Classroom selected 33
teacher grant projects for funding for the 2009-10 school year. Projects include
traditional schoolyard gardens and hydroponics gardens, among other efforts.
The deadline for teacher grants for the upcoming school year is Oct. 1, 2010.
