WHAT ROLES DO YOUR CLEANERS REALLY PLAY EVERY DAY?

basket filled w easter eggs

they are Public Relations People
they are Customer Relations People
they are Sales Representatives
they are Professional Organizers
they are Navigators
they are Reconcilers
they are House Cleaners

WHAT DO YOU FEED A GOOSE THAT HAS TO LAY THAT MANY DIFFERENT KINDS OF GOLDEN EGGS !!??!!

Have you ever stopped to think of all of the different roles that we ask our cleaning employees to play?  In many instances they are the first face to face impression that our clients get of our company.  That makes them our first line Public Relations employees. When your cleaner(s) follow other cleaner(s) from your company that the client was not happy with, our cleaning employees become Customer Service Representatives.  When a customer requests an extra task be performed when they get to their home and it will require an extra fee the cleaner becomes a Sales Representative.  When the cleaner gets to a child's bedroom that is such a mess that there isn't even a walkway the cleaner becomes a Professional Organizer.  When a cleaner drives to a home that even a cab driver would be challenged to find they become a Navigator.  When a client wants them to do more than they have paid for they are a Negotiator.  When the client does not like the products they are using they become Reconcilers.  And during all of these roles they must also be quality driven and efficient House Cleaners.  WOW.
Where did your cleaners learn how to handle all of these roles?  Who's feeding them that knowledge?  They didn't just wake up one morning and know how to do things that some people actually spend years getting Ph.D.'s studying how to do.  You have taken seminars, flown to conventions, bought training tapes, paid for consultants, googled until the wee hours of the morning and spent time and money on learning how to be a successful business owner.  You just did not wake up one morning knowing how to do your job.  You are the owner, however, so you proactively did what it takes to educate yourself.  You are unrealistic if you expect your employees to do the same.  You must feed your employees.  If you want them to be able to handle more than house cleaning, because 50% of your cancellations will come from areas that have nothing to do with the actual cleanliness of the house when the cleaning is completed, then you must train them in areas other than house cleaning.  Of course, the first and most important thing you want to do is train your employees in a quality driven, as well as efficiency driven, cleaning system.  If you also want low turnover, happy employees and a service driven staff with good, solid core values then after the house cleaning training you must continue to feed them with on going education that will nurture company and personal values.  What you will receive back as an owner is less stress in the day to day operations of your company.
You need to discuss, or find a mode to discuss, values with your employees.  They need to know and understand the values of your company.  You need to be able to empower your employees and they need to know how to handle the responsibility you have given them with the empowerment.  They need to learn some basic skills that they can transcribe into any situation.  They need to know what other successful people know.
Where do they learn to be proactive, to be organized, to be diplomatic with others, to set priorities, to set goals and to advance in their careers?
They learn that from you.
How do you teach them?
You discuss each one of these areas with them.
How do you do that?
You prepare seminars that teach them skills in each of these areas and then you discuss these skills after your presentation.
What if you do not have time to prepare presentations on these topics?
 Then you outsource that responsibility.
Who can you outsource that responsibility to?
There are consulting companies that will tailor write seminars for your company for a fairly high price tag because it is tailor made.  Rags to Riches covers all of these topics in both English and Spanish tailor made to the residential cleaning service arena.  All of our examples are already tailor made to this industry so our cost is extremely low.  Seminars are on line and 25-45 minutes in length.  For a one time per webinar minimal cost of $5 you can download a work sheet designed to aid with 'after seminar' discussions as well as insuring that they employee watched the session and was engaged in the session.
Your cleaning staff employees are so very competent.  Please give them an opportunity to prove that to you by supplementing their lack of knowledge in areas that become frustrating to you.  Invest some time and very little money developing your staff.  Your client and employee turnover will never be reduced by anything as much as it will be reduced by spending some quality educational time with your staff.  They are the geese that lay your golden eggs.  Start supplementing their feedings today with nutritional on going educational seminars.

This was my first webinar even though I had heard glowing things about them in the past. I whole heartedly agree with their assessments. This webinar was classic Sharon Tinberg. Full of info, smooth pace, and delivered well. Excellent!

I have been in the cleaning biz since well before my company began in 2003. Back then, I learned how to clean from Jeff Campbell's course and was excited to share it with two employees as my company grew. Today, I am so grateful to have your CORE training available for my staff of fourteen. This came at the perfect time for us. I now have two employees interested in training others. I promise I will do as you say, but I cannot promise I will be free of frustration. Thank you so much for bringing the training up to date and for being such a caring individual! Good luck with your future endeavors!
