The early spring certainly has gotten me thinking about my garden - what about you? I don't have a large planting area that receives a lot of sun so in the past few years, I have resorted to planting up pots. Pots of herbs, pots of veggies, pots of shade loving plants, pots of sun loving plants -whatever suits my fancy and then I move them to where they need to be depending on the time of day. My daughter is anxiously waiting for the right time to buy as she has her eye on a few new echinacea plants that Sage Garden Herbs has to offer this year. There are such dazzling colors now available that it makes choosing just a few very challenging! Our echinacea bed promises to be very colorful later this summer!

Gardening Saturday and the Mothers Day Plant Sale hosted by Friends of Assiniboine Park Conservatory happen May 8th and 9th. Stop by and visit our table at Gardening Saturday - we're bringing along many local and Canadian products that make great gifts for Mom or yourself!!

Here's to a happy planting season - whether you have expansive flowers beds or a sunny corner on your patio! Enjoy!

Send Mom our new Spa Experience Basket. This basket filled with a variety of wonderful body treatments is sure to please. Smell the Soap handcrafted soap, Fruit Frappe superfruit body lotion and peppermint warming foot scrub are designed to pamper. We've also added in a few treats and a wonderful scented votive candle to complete the basket. Packaged in cute purse style basket (use after as a planter) or alternate basket by request.

Our Herbal Delight Basket is back. Available from May to July, we fill this basket with herbs from Sage Gardens Herbs, add in some hand crafted soap and herbal tea. The herbs come in a bright garden trug style basket perfect for storing clippers or gloves. We can substitute or add other goodies to this basket as well.

Our Chocolate baskets are always a hit. You can choose from The Ultimate Chocolate Extravaganza or Coffee and Chocolate Lovers. Both are full of chocolatey delights - we even add in Chocolate Honey or Espresso Honey from The John Russell Honey Company. Chocolate Mint Roobis tea is also a hit in these baskets!

Our two tea baskets - Tea for You and Tea Time just keep on giving. They are packaged in a tea cup style planter that can be used inside or out! Filled with different teas and goodies, they are perfect for sitting down on a sunny afternoon ( or a rainy one too!). Butterflies Are Free (see the photo above) is another great idea. It comes in two sizes and includes butterfly themed items.

In my search for unique products I came across some fantastic fudge! Handmade, in small batches one of the best things about this product that it is nut free. From the onset, this company decided their facility would be nut free. This is such a bonus to my business as I often have requests for nut free items!

I have been a fan of handcrafted soaps ever since I discovered Virginias Soap a few years ago. Unfortunately Virginia and her husband are no longer in the soap business but there are plenty of others to choose from. Smell the Soap - is an eyecatching and nose tingling handcrafted soap that I have found and have brought in 3 heavenly scents for starters - Citrus Swirl, Lemongrass and Sage, and Black Raspberry Vanilla.

Just in time for BBQ season - I have brought back a sampling of Wild West Seasonings. These unique meat rub style marinades are easy to use, flavorful and are produced by a Manitoba company. I also have Danny's Own BBQ Sauces ( of Danny's Whole Hog BBQ) back in stock. Our favorite - Raspberry Chipotle and Roasted Garlic and Honey.

Watch for the new "This Little Piggy" basket that will be appearing on the website in May. In my search for piggy themed items I came across some awesome kitchen tools that are all piggy themed as well as pig shaped licorice and pig shaped chocolate bars. You won't be sending this piggy to market anytime soon!!

We have some great new patterns of eco bags in stock from b.b.begonia. We have added them to our website and as well will have a larger selection with us at Gardening Saturday.

Have you picked up your copy of Dish!?? Dish! magazine is one of the latest Winnipeg foodie magazines to hit the streets. This issue features Rhubarb and the many ways to use this vegetable ( nope it's not a fruit). From Rhubarb Cream Pie ( my mom used to make this) to Rhubarb martini's - there are lots of tips on what to do with this garden mainstay.

Dish! magazine also highlights some of the culinary events happening in Winnipeg - Manitoba Liquor Marts Training Kitchen is offering 2 workshops - Indonesian Cooking and Cooking with Herbs. Half Pints Brewing Company - a Winnipeg micro brewer is currently offering tours of their facility every Saturday morning.

To find out more - pick up your copy of Dish! at Manitoba Liquor Marts and at one of my favorite coffee roasters - Black Pearl Coffee at 460 Dufferin Ave.
Art Among Friends sets of art cards are available by contacting Community Living Winnipeg.
