Ag in the city

Enough talking about the cold! The days are longer, the sun is brighter and we know that in a month from now the snow will be melting. With that we are all itching to ditch the winter apparel and put on the rain boots. Around the province, everyone is gearing up for spring. At the Forks, visit Ag in the City from March 20 - 22. Come experience the many interactive displays where you can taste, touch and see what's happening in agriculture. You'll be surprised at what you discover! Capturing Opportunities takes place in Brandon in April - see next months news for more information. Your budding movie makers will enjoy the Freeze Frame International Children's Film Festival from March 5 - 14. Check their website for locations. Home Expressions takes place at the Convention Centre from March 19 - 22. Sage Garden Herbs opens their doors on April 1st and Friends of the Conservatory presents Seedy Saturday on March 7th and Gardening Saturday on May 9th.

There's lots happening so it's time to shake off the blahs and get out and discover!

Bothwell Cheese is one of the few remaining Canadian artisanal cheesemakers still thriving today. They remain committed to the local agricultural community by using local milk which is delivered right to their plant. In early January it was announced that Bothwell Cheese, Dairy Farmers of Manitoba, and the Manitoba Bulk Milk Haulers will provide monthly cheese donations worth $200,000 per year to Winnipeg Harvest for Manitobans in need, and have committed to the program for five years, which adds up to $1 million worth of cheese. This donation will ensure that the much needed calcium component is available to the clients of Winnipeg Harvest.

Bothwell Cheese has again been awarded the first- place Trophy in the marble cheddar class at the prestigious 81st Annual British Empire Cheese Show. This is three years in a row the Manitoba-based cheese maker has taken first place with its Marble Cheddar; it was also awarded third place this year for its Monterey Jack. "The British Empire Cheese Show is one of the most highly regarded international cheese competitions in Canada," says Bothwell Cheese President & CEO Ivan Balenovic. "This award once again highlights the extraordinary talent of our skilled cheese makers who put extra care into every cheese they make. It's owing to their hard work and dedication that our Marble Cheddar is the best - and has been acknowledged as such for the past three years."

The Mulberry Tree Gift Baskets includes Bothwell Cheese in our Orchard Delight and Wine Country gift baskets. We can also add Bothwell Cheese to any basket that you order! Bothwell Cheese can be found at many retailers throughout Manitoba.
