Fall  2012

Sweaters for Seniors Proudly Announces
Our 2012 Co-Sponsor !

Thanks to Gwinnett Council for Seniors

for joining us this year!

S4S began in 2008 as a way for our home care agency to provide community service to seniors in Atlanta's nursing homes. But after a 4th grade teacher saw us talking about it on CBS Atlanta, S4S experienced a windfall of sweaters from the Galloway School. After distributing them to nursing homes in Atlanta, we still had bags and bags of warm & fuzzy treasures! So, we called Gwinnett County Senior Services to see if they could help us dispense the sweaters. Skip ahead four years and the rest is history. Partnering with schools, organizations and local businesses, Sweaters for Seniors has truly been a grassroots effort. That's why we're so excited to announce our first co-sponsorship this year with the Gwinnett Council for Seniors. A nonprofit organization located in the heart of historic Lawrenceville, GA - Gwinnett County's Seat, the Council is not only an amazing resource for seniors. It serves as an advocate for the needs of seniors as well.  We hope that with our new partner, we can get to 1,001 sweaters collected this year for Gwinnett's seniors.

A "honey-do" list for Fall maintenance.

1) Check all heat pumps, filters, furnaces or boilers.
2) Make sure there are working lights at the top and bottom of stairs.
3) Check all windows and door locks for proper operation.
4) Inspect fireplaces and flues to prevent built-up soot from igniting in your chimney.
5) Check and clean dust from covers of smoke and carbon monoxide alarms.
6) Re-caulk gaps between bathroom fixtures and floor to prevent water seepage.
7) Check weather stripping around doors and windows to keep cold air out.

Medicare information is power to seniors thanks to Keith Nabb.

Every Fall, Keith Nabb of Advocate Financial Group is called upon to speak at churches, senior centers, clubs and homeowner's associations. That's when Medicare's Annual Enrollment period is in full swing and when his timely up-to-the-minute knowledge on its changing rules is critically needed.

While agents are privy to the new "guidelines" in September, the general public isn't until October 1. Which is why from now through Thanksgiving, Keith makes it his business to educate seniors on all recent Medicare reforms before enrollment season ends December 7.

"This level of fast-paced change and reform can be unsettling," says Nabb. "Many new terms, rules and decisions are placed in front of our senior population and their caregivers. Unfortunately the government is not able to provide much education beyond the excellent website Medicare.Gov and the printed Annual Guide to Medicare."

So, Keith steps in and spends a tremendous amount of time and energy with his clients and the general public making sure they comprehend and properly plan for their needs each year. Some very important questions must be asked each year including:

  • What is my individual list of medications against the drug plans available in my county?
  • Do I access Medicare through Medicare Advantage or Original Medicare with a Medigap plan?
  • Is it the time of year to make sure my doctor and pharmacist are still on my plan?
  • Is my doctor group continuing to take Medicare in the next year and still accepting my plan?

Advocate Financial Group provides this step-by-step education in a simple and friendly manner appreciated by seniors. Keith takes the worry out of this process by empowering his clients with the proper knowledge to confidently speak with their providers, pharmacists and other companies. By utilizing the Medicare website, Keith distills the confusing maze of choices down to very clear options, customized to each person.

To schedule a free club or group meeting with Keith between now and Thanksgiving, please call Keith at 678-546-7890.
