Enjoy the fall festivities at your local senior center.

From bingo to holiday parties to quilting and computer lessons, Atlanta's senior centers provide fellowship, friendship, activities, and education throughout metro Atlanta. Most of them are free or have nominal membership or activity fees. The offerings will vary, but each center is there to serve the needs of older adults in their community. Click here for a complete list and phone numbers for senior centers in DeKalb, Fulton, Cobb and Gwinnett Counties.

There's no place like a safe and well-kept home.

A "honey-do" list for Fall maintenance.

1) Check all heat pumps, filters, furnaces or boilers.
2) Make sure there are working lights at the top and bottom of stairs.
3) Check all windows and door locks for proper operation.
4) Inspect fireplaces and flues to prevent built-up soot from igniting in your chimney.
5) Check and clean dust from covers of smoke and carbon monoxide alarms.
6) Re-caulk gaps between bathroom fixtures and floor to prevent water seepage.
7) Check weather stripping around doors and windows to keep cold air out.

It's that time again...to donate your "Sweaters for Seniors." (4th Annual)

Thanks to schools, doctor's offices, organizations, individuals and businesses, S4S has raised more than 2,000 sweaters for seniors throughout metro Atlanta since 2008.

If your office, business or school would like to collect sweaters for us to pick-up, please contact our office at 770-736-7977. And feel good knowing you're helping seniors stay warm this coming fall and winter.

Home Care Today is an e-news publication of Alternative Home Care for Seniors (AHCS). Each monthly issue features quick-read information pertaining to seniors, caregivers, our community involvement, etc. In addition, we proudly feature a story on a senior service other than home care in each issue. If you have an idea that benefits seniors, we'd like to know about it for a possible future issue. To see archived e-newsletters, click here.
