JULY/AUGUST

2011

Dear Friend:

Happy Fourth of July!

Independence is a wonderful thing. That goes for celebrating our country's independence and for seniors living independently in their own home, too.

In this month's issue of Home Care Today, you'll get to meet a man who provides comprehensive health care to seniors in their own home. That's right. His name is Dr. Joel Fine and he makes house calls if you can believe it or not. How's that for old fashioned customer service? It's as American as mom's apple pie.

As you may know, Alzheimer's is a disease that greatly affects many older Americans and their families. But you can join the fight to stomp out this disease out by signing up this summer for The Walk To End Alzheimers. We''d like to thank Jennifer Hannah for her "pep walk talk" she contributed to this month's issue.

One of our valued employees, Njeri Skeete, a Care Coordinator with AHCS for the past 4 years, moved to New York this week. She will be missed, but we thank her for her contributions to our clients and caregivers and wish her all the best!

Finally, as alluded to in our "Red, White and New" subject line is the announcement of our 2nd Alternative Home Care for Seniors, (AHCS) office in Orlando, FL. We're excited to branch out and offer home care throughout the U.S., starting in Central Florida. If you know a compassionate entrepreneur, we have very special new franchise opportunities available for a limited time -- through the end of this year. Read below for details. Thanks and have a fun and safe Fourth of July!

Be well,

Sharna Fulton, Director of Marketing

Alternative Home Care for Seniors (AHCS), 2386 Clower St. E-202, Snellville, GA 30078

Fact: Every 69 Seconds, someone is diagnosed with Alzheimer's Disease.

So by the time you finish reading this article, I would guess that 3 to 5 people  have now become a victim  of Alzheimer's Disease. Ok...so I'm making an early push this year to get more Georgian's involved in Walk to End Alzheimer's. Did you know that 200,000 Georgian's have this disease? Can you imagine the caregiver hours that are spent trying to care for a person with Alzheimer's?

Which is why I'm encouraging YOU to WALK. You can just click here to register a team.  Align yourself, your friends and family, your coworkers and company with a cause that will support 5.3 million Americans, and 11 million caregivers.  Wear purple every Friday, ask me about getting "Casual for a Cause" stickers to show your support at work, and by all means talk about it everywhere you go. The 2011 North Fulton-Gwinnett/Duluth Walk will be held Saturday, October 1st at Duluth Town Green and the 2011 Atlanta Walk to End Alzheimer's will be held at Atlantic Station on Saturday, October 8th, so that's plenty of time to form a team at work, at church, with a Girl Scout Troop or Boy Scout Troop, or even your kids athletic teams.

Sincerely and With Great Appreciation,

Jennifer Hannah

-Director of Community Relations for Sunrise at Ivey Ridge

-Atlanta WALK Steering Committee Member

-Granddaughter of an Amazing Woman diagnosed with Alzheimer's Disease. Determined to change our family tree...

Dr. Brings Humor and Health To Seniors On House Calls

When Joel Fine was five years old, he knew that someday he'd wear a white coat and make people smile. Little did he know then  just what a difference he'd end up making in so many people's lives.

Born and raised in Georgia, after graduating from Lakeside High School in Atlanta, Joel Fine majored in Biochemistry at UGA in Athens. (He graduated with honors Magna cum laude.) He then attended the Medical College of Georgia in Augusta under a full scholarship through 1992 and served his Residency training in Internal Medicine at East Carolina University in Greenville, North Carolina.

Today, Dr. Joel Fine is an Internist with a medical practice in Snellville, GA that truly caters to the young and old.

Take for instance, one of his many senior patients he makes house calls to each week. Yes. House calls. "They are an often needed, yet seldom provided medical service," explains Stefanie Fine, Dr. Fine's wife and practice manager.  "Most of us, at some point in our lives, will have some type of physical limitation such as fractured hips, strokes, and Alzheimer's that impedes our ability to travel," she adds.

So, if you can't make it to Dr. Fine's Snellville, GA practice, he'll come to you -- complete with comprehensive medical treatment and his own brand of humor and passion for solving problems.

I've never met a blood pressure I couldn't fix. I've only met stubbornness. I couldn't fix that," says Dr. Fine. He adds, "Being a doctor gives me a special opportunity to make a difference in an individual's health and quality of life." For more information on Dr. Fine & Associates, click here.
