E-News from Alternative Home Care for Seniors

 August 2009

Hello August! A
Signal That A New Season Is On Its Way.

Fall is now just a little more than a month away. A time of change as children head back to school, the leaves on the trees turn gold and the air cools down a bit. But not so fast! As we head towards late summer, the sun still bursts its final heat wave upon us for the year. And with it, we continue to enjoy our summer activities, as we mentally prepare for a new season around the bend.
The same is true for various stages of life. The ability for us to adapt is made possible with preparation for the future. Then, if we can only bend a little with the wind, we can weather whatever comes before us. At Alternative Home Care for Seniors, our goal is to make it easy for seniors to welcome home care into their lives. After all, when he or she decides it's time for personal care or companionship, it's our job to make that lifestyle change as easy and seamless as possible.
But we aren't the only company that caters to seniors making life changes. Adrienne Simpson of Smooth Mooove has been helping seniors downsize for more than a decade. Her company moves seniors from their homes and into assisted living facilities. I interviewed her for this month's "transition" edition and found out some of the special needs seniors have for adapting to a new home.

Here's to embracing change!

Smooth Mooove Helps Seniors Transition To A New Home With Minimal Stressadrienne
An interview with Adrienne Simpson,
President, Smooth Mooove, Senior Relocation Service

Q: What is Smooth Mooove?
A: We are the only company of our kind in the U.S. because we do much more than move seniors.
Q: What do you mean by that?
A: Seniors moving from their homes into assisted living facilities face a different set of challenges than other people who move. We help them work through the entire transition of moving.
Q: What are the steps you take to help move a senior?
A: Downsizing is the first thing. What to take, sell, donate and give away. Next, we do the packing, then transport their belongings. Finally, we unpack and set-up their new home.
Q: Is this a big help to them?
A: Yes, because moving can be very traumatic. They are leaving a home they've perhaps spent 20, 30, or 50 years.
Q: Explain the process. How long does the move take?
A: It's usually 2 days. One day of packing. And one day to move and set-up. When we arrive to pack up, the senior(s) go somewhere for the afternoon. Later, when they arrive at their new home, all of their possessions are exactly where we planned they would be.
Q: That is amazing!
A: Yes. It really makes them feel like they're home when they see their slippers in the same place they're used to seeing them.
Q: Are there any other services you provide that are helpful to seniors who are moving?
A: Yes. We'll help get their house ready to sell. We do renovations and cleaning. We'll also hold estate sales to help them pare down possessions.
Q: How much does your service cost?
A: We are licensed like a regular moving company and charge by the hour as they do. Our other consultative services are fee based.
Q: Thank you Adrienne. Keep up the good work.
A: You're welcome. Please remind your readers to call us @ (678) 476-6666 if they have any questions. http://www.wemoveseniors.com
