Wednesday, June 27 4 pm "Special: Navajo Code-Talkers." During the Second World War Navajo Native Americans served in the U.S. Marines, using their own language to transmit messages in code. Theirs was the only code not broken by enemy forces. Richard Dillman hosts. The Petaluma Historical Museum has an exhibit. Thursday, June 28 9 am "Swimming Upstream" with Amanda Eichstaedt. Guest co-hostStanley Lubman interviewsJames Fallows, author ofChina Airborne. Fallows is a national correspondent for The Atlantic, a news analyst for NPR's Weekend All Things Considered,and a visiting professor at the University of Sydney. "More than two-thirds of the new airports under construction today are being built in China. Chinese airlines expect to triple their fleet size over the next decade and will account for the fastest-growing market for Boeing and Airbus." 5 pm "Open House."Danny Holderman chews the fat with Richard Dillman and Lyons Filmer.
9:30 pm "L.A. Theatre Works: Going to St. Ives."Tonight's story iswritten byLee Blessing. An English eye surgeon has been chosen to operate on the mother of a ruthless African dictator. But each woman has a favor to ask the other... and the consequences are a matter of life and death. Shirley Jo Finney directs Caroline Goodall, L. Scott Caldwell. The broadcast includes a conversation with playwright Lee Blessing, as well as a special roundtable feature on mothers and sons in theatrical history. Friday, June 29 10 am "Turning Pages." Muriel Murch interviews Robert Hardman, author of Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II and Her Court, a courtier's portrait of the longed-lived, thoroughly modern monarch. Saturday, June 30 11 am "ViewPoint." Author Adrienne Arieff discusses her book, Sacred Thread:A True Story of Becoming a Mother and Finding a Family Half a World Away. After suffering three miscarriages and learning she could not carry a baby to term, Arieff and her husband traveled to India for in vitro fertilization using an Indian surrogate. Arieff developed a strong relationship with her Indian surrogate and the Indian staff that facilitated this procedure. Arieff discusses the controversy around foreign surrogacy. 10 pm "Saturday Night Function." Marc Matheson spins jazz, blues and soul LPs donated during the recent KWMR Music Drive. Monday, July 2 1 pm "Ocean Currents." Jennifer Stock's guest is Josh Berry, local ocean enthusiast, presenting his film, art, and adventure project "The Ocean Inside." Tuesday, July 3 9 am "Airwaves." Raul hosts Dr. C. Norman Shealy, The Healing Remedies Sourcebook: Over 1000 Natural Remedies to Prevent and Cure Common Ailments. 5 pm "Open House: Beat Pedaler." This documentary by Vanessa Lowe is an in-depth exploration of rapper, inventor, and educator Paul Freedman's passion for bike culture. It's a lot of fun, and filled with music and effects.
5:30 pm "Epicenter: Point Reyes Dialogues." This month philosopher Jacob Needleman talks with Roger Walsh, Professor of Psychiatry at UC Irvine.
