YOM HA'SHOAH

Voices of TVT Youth Mingle with those of Survivors Commemorating the Shoah/Holocaust

The Middle and Upper School students participated in a multisensory, multimedia memorial to the Holocaust. Tuesday's program began with a beautiful candle lighting that included students, TVT Founder and Shoah survivor, Mr. Irving Gelman, as well as community member and Shoah survivor, Mr. Isidore Nussenbaum.

Photos from the students' trip to Poland were projected, along with their thoughts about the trip read by 12th grade students Aaron Wertheimer and Monica Schnapp. Mr. Nussenbaum's deeply moving video interview gave us all a glimpse into a real Survivor's reality.

Music teacher, Mr. Kevin Bachelder, on keyboard, 8th grade student, Daniel Aretskin, on violin and 6th Grade student Noa Lin, dancing, presented the hauntingly beautiful musical theme from Schindler's List. 10th Grade student, Talya Breen read her short essay about Elie Weisel's Night and 11th Grade student, Charles DeLoach read his award winning poem, Separation.

Special thanks to Judaic teachers, Mr. Damian Zoppo and Mr.Jared Friedman and the many faculty members who were instrumental in coordinating this memorable tribute.

DID YOU KNOW??

Special Program for Middle School to Honor                   Holocaust Remembrance Day

Ann Frank's Voice and Spirit Brought Back to Life through "Living Voices" from the Holocaust

TVT 6th and 7th Graders were masterfully and sensitively taken back in time to walk hand in hand with Ann Frank. From the vantage point of Ann's "friend" Sara, the students had the unique opportunity to experience Ann's life from before hiding, to her life in the secret attic and to her subsequent death in Bergen Belsen concentration camp. This program brought the important voice of Ann Frank, silenced by the Holocaust, back to life, impressing the important lesson of living with courage and spirit in terrible times.
Additionally this program served as an extension of the 7th Grade Language Arts Program in which the students read and studied the Diary of Ann Frank.
