Class and Club Notes |
1st Grade
First Grade has been doing a unit on American symbols. The
children have learned lots of facts about America and how it began. They
made a book which includes a lot of art projects like the flag, the eagle, and
the Liberty Bell. If you did not see the Halloween art of first grade,
you missed a treat. It filled the entire hallway.
In Mrs. Smart's class, grandmother Linda McMullen has been very
generous with her time and talents. She read A Bad Case of the
Sillies by David Shannon, did an art activity, and gave each child a
colorful eraser. Thank you, Miss Linda, grandmother of Lane Stanley. Middle School
"Mark the Magic Man" comes to John
Milledge.
On Tuesday, October 27, 2009,
"Mark the Magic Man" came to John Milledge for more than entertainment.
He came to teach the 5th, 6th, 7th, and 8th
graders an important lesson about the magic word "NO". October has long
been associated with drug and alcohol awareness. His message reminded students
that saying "no" is more than just a word. It a conscious decision about
life. It is an attitude that allows them to have fun, friends, and most
of all - a future. Thanks to the Exchange Club for allowing us the
opportunity to enjoy the "magic".
Red Cross Blood Drive
The NHS is holding a blood drive at JMA on Friday, Nov. 20
from Noon until 5. They are seeking alumni and parents to donate. If you are interested, e-mail medwards@johnmilledge.org.
Pull Tabs
The first collection date for pull tabs in the
elementary school is Nov. 20. All tabs are donated to the Ronald
McDonald House.
Junior Beta ClubThe Junior Beta Club is recycling Capri Sun pouches.
John Milledge Academy receives two cents for every
pouch. The Club has collected over 1500 capri sun pouches. Thanks to all of
the families who are participating. The money raised will go directly to the Capital Campaign. Keep up the great work!!
Junior Beta students are also attending the Junior Beta Convention on Nov. 20 and 21.
