Quietness of Heart

"Humility is perpetual quietness of heart... It is never to be fretted, or vexed, or irritated, or sore, or disappointed. It is to expect nothing, to wonder at nothing that is done to me, to feel nothing done against me. It is to be at rest when no one praises me, and when I am blamed and despised. It is to have a blessed home in myself... and be at peace as in a deep sea of calmness, when all around and above is troubled."                                                                              ~ Canon T.T. Carter

Greetings!

SvaroopaŽ yoga is transformational. Core opening supports a direct experience of the ease of being. Through the release of tension: physical, mental and emotional, your awareness is free to go inward and rest.  We can open all the way through as we see what is arising within us. Life moves through this opening. Any sticky or crunchy places continue to be smoothed out  with a regular practice. To see how your practice is going you can look at your life.

Ahimsa- Non- Harming

"The principle of ahimsa is already built into your poses and your Ujjayi Pranayama. It's nothing that you have to add to your practice. You need to add it to your life. One way you can see how you are doing with ahimsa is to watch your driving habits. How are you behind the wheel?"                                                                                             - Swami Nirmalananda

Transitioning into this spring season can spark a reflection and conscious intention for what we breathe life into, re-aligning with what we want to enliven, inside and outside! This is an opportunity to bring the clarity you receive as one of the benefits of SvaroopaŽ yoga to your conscious intention for your practice, your relationships, your work, how you relate to service providers or a bill collector.

A reminder about relapse.....

It's real and sometimes seems more like circumstances aren't going quite your way, other people are uncooperative, or physical symptoms return. Relapse occurs when we have an opening and then the body wants to contract again. So, in a sense it's good, it means you've released tension. This is why we talk about the regularity of your practice. Relapse can look like crankiness or even meanness according to Swamiji, and it can show up in the darndest of places. We'll be talking more about this in class.

Equanimity is defined as the balance and centeredness which endures through all possible changes in circumstances. According to the Bhagavad Gītā, one may achieve equanimity through meditation. An example of equanimity at the studio could be that a newcomer and a yogi that has taken hundreds of classes, feel welcome equally

It is our good nature that is aware of being inclusive, with no "insiders" nor "outsiders," no inside jokes. It's a great practice to remain neutral. We can practice this together as we meet for classes. I realized by watching a premier teacher at a teacher training that she responded the same  way whether someone had a criticism or a compliment. I thought... I want to be there! It's a process to let go of what other people think of us but a great practice which frees up our energy to use for what we want, not what we are afraid of.
