REMINDERS FROM TEACHERS

Our sign out system has two important steps-please remember to sign your child out before you hand his/her name clip to the teachers.

Children should bring backpacks labeled with their names.  Please check and empty the backpack after each session.

Try to have your child use the bathroom prior to starting the day, especially if you begin on the playlot or at Penny Park.

If you drop off at Penny Park, be sure to check in with the "Check-In Teacher" at the Lake Street entrance to the park.  Also ,please don't linger at Penny Park after dropping off your child.  It makes it harder to engage your child in play and your presence is a distraction that makes safe supervision more challenging for the teachers.

PLEASE STRIVE TO BE ON TIME, BOTH AT DROP-OFF & PICK-UP!  We know this is a challenge for many families who have to balance the schedules of younger and/or older siblings.  Especially now with all of the road work, it's always a good idea to add a few minutes to your typical commute time.  If you have an ongoing problem with getting to school on time, please discuss this with your teachers.  Late pick-ups are unfair to everyone and late fees will be charged.

If your child is staying for lunch, please leave your child's lunch in the basket provided for lunches by your child's classroom on indoor days (every day for 3 Day 3's).  That way, we can be sure to get it into the refrigerator early.

For safety reasons, gym shoes are preferred for park and gym play.  Crocs and flip flops can result in trips and falls.

IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT
CHERRY PRESCHOOL FOOD POLICIES

Because we want to reinforce healthy eating habits, we serve a basic snack of fruit (raisins, apples, banana, etc.) or dairy product (cheese slice, cream cheese, etc.) and some type of crackers or pretzel.  We serve snack size portions of these foods as well as water to drink.  Snack menus are posted each week.  Because many of our children have food allergies and/or dietary restrictions, we are limited in the variety of snacks we offer.  However, if you want to send a special snack for the class, please check with your teachers for guidelines.

Birthdays & special treats - The children enjoy occasional special treats provided by parents to celebrate birthdays or mark a holiday or special event.  If you choose to do this, please sign up so the teachers know to expect it and please be sensitive to any children in the class who have food restrictions.  Store bought, packaged, mini-sized treats are best!  Please see your Parent Handbook  for some suggestions.  Please remember to send enough for the entire class.  The teachers will guide you regarding quantities and the need to avoid any foods. Candy and gum are never permitted.

Is Cherry a peanut-free school?  The answer is yes and no.  We do not serve peanuts or peanut products and do not allow children to bring them in their lunches, but we cannot (and do not wish to) regulate what children eat at home before school.   While we ask that children wash their hands upon entering school, no one could promise the school building is "peanut free."  For example, a child who ate peanut butter on toast for breakfast and wiped his hands on his shirt could theoretically get peanut oil on a toy or climber.  Luckily, we have never had a child who is that sensitive to peanuts.  As with all serious food allergies, we ask that the parents of children with these food sensitivities to supply the snacks for their children to ensure their safety.
