BE ON THE LOOK OUT FOR A BLUE VAN

A man driving a blue van has approached girls outside of Evanston elementary and middle schools this week.  He is described as heavy build,
approximately 5' 10" tall,
and possibly Hispanic.  Thankfully, the girls ran away from him in every case.  We have directed our staff to watch for this van when they are at Penny Park and to call 911 (they always have their personal and Cherry cell phones with them at the park) if they see it.  We ask you to join us in being extra observant and to report anything like this to the police immediately.  We can all be extra eyes and ears for the police and our community.  Thank you.

MARKET MONEY

Check out the Market Money program at Cherry!  This is an easy way to contribute money to our school, at no extra cost to you!  This program entails purchasing grocery store gift cards to use as cash when you do your everyday shopping.  The stores contribute 4-5% of your gift card amount back to Cherry.  It's a simple as that.

The participating stores are: Dominick's, Jewel, Sam's Club and Whole Foods.

Orders are distributed on the Monday closest to the 20th of the month. Only checks or auto-debit are accepted for this program, and are due by the 15th of the month.  You can change your order at any time, or keep the same amount every month, based on your grocery needs.

You will be getting more information in your child's cubby, or you can go on-line at:

Enrollment contracts are available in the office or online:

IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT
A PLEA FOR LEGAL PARKING & CIVILITY!

Please do not:
  • Block our neighbors' driveways or alleys
  • Park in loading zones, bus stops, or handicapped spaces
  • Park in the pull-in spaces on Ashland just south of Lake-they belong to the businesses there!
  • Double park along the wall in the school lot
  • Pull into the school lot without calling the office first for help with a special situation.
Please make sure you communicate this to anyone who brings your child to preschool.  Sometimes, caregivers do not seem to be aware of the rules.

Most important of all, if a neighbor or business person asks you to move your car because you are illegally parked, please be polite and move it.  It is much better to be a few minutes late and model kindness and civility for your child.  Thanks!

THE 2009-10 EDITION IS COMING SOON...LET'S STAY CONNECTED!

If you do not want to be listed, or you do not want your e-mail address listed, please contact the office by October 2.  If we do not hear from you, we will assume it is fine to list your information (for Cherry families only).
THANKS TO...

==> Gus Lira, our amazingly patient custodian, for all of the extra work he did to help get the school ready.  In addition to his usual custodial jobs, Gus painted, assembled furniture, and carried out a multitude of tasks for the teachers.  No matter what we ask of him, Gus comes through, and he does it with grace and a huge smile.  He's a gem!

==> Kendra Morrill and Lynn Fiedler, our Board President & Vice President, for their amazing energy, support, & devotion to Cherry.  The school year has barely begun and they have already attended many meetings to ensure a smooth start for all of us!

==> The Staff and Board for all of their work preparing for Parent Orientation Night.  Special thanks to Lynn Fiedler for coordinating the event.

==> Our amazing gardening committee: Steve Zehr, Alex Schultheis, and Kim Dietz!  Thanks for planting and tidying up Sammy's Garden, for power washing the plaolot, and for planting the flower boxes in front of the preschool.  Everything looks wonderful!

==> The Board and Room Parents for organizing the highly successful Family Gatherings.  It's not easy to put together an event so early in the school year.  Much thanks!!
welcome 2CHERRY OFFICE
PLEASE COME IN!

The school office is almost always open to you, whether you want us to check on how your child is doing or ask a question about lunch.  Sometimes, the office seems like Grand Central Station, especially at arrival and dismissal times.  Please don't let the chaos stop you from getting what you need.  If we can't help you right then, we'll set up a time to meet with you as soon as possible.

The best times to call us are between 8:00-11:30 or 12:30-3:30, or e-mail us at cherrysch@aol.com.

There may be occasional times when the office door is closed.  This means there is a time-sensitive task that requires our complete attention or a private phone conversation.  We ask that you honor these times when the door is closed and come back a little later or leave us a note.  Thanks for your understanding on these rare occasions.

FROM OUR FINANCIAL MANAGER

Thank you to all Cherry families for your conscientious payments for tuition and lunch fees!  The Cherry Board has directed me to enforce our late fee policy in an effort to keep families from falling behind on their accounts (see your Tuition Agreement).  Families with monthly accounts are expected to make payments by the first of each month; they receive courtesy reminders via their children's cubbies.  Families with trimester accounts receive statements two weeks prior to the due date via the childrens' cubbies or by US Mail.  Please check your child's backpack daily, watching for these invoices and other important information.

If you have a problem with making your payment by the due date, please contact me.  We are happy to work with you to make other arrangements, but we need to hear from you and have your information on file.

One final note: please write your child's name on your check; no forms need to be returned with your payment as long as your child is identified.  And please do not staple checks to anything. An old envelope or paper clip works better, and our mailbox outside the office is quite secure.  Thanks for being such a great group to work with!
