Courage Confidence Character H

March 5 - May 31, 2012
Ritz Theatre and Museum
829 N. Davis Street, Jacksonville

In commemoration of the 100th Anniversary of Girl Scouting in the USA, Girl Scouts of Gateway Council and the Ritz Theatre and Museum present an exhibit celebrating the people and places that shaped Girl Scouting in the African American community in Northeast Florida. Featuring materials from the Gateway Council historical collection, including photos, documents, vintage handbooks and uniforms, the exhibit highlights the origins of the Girl Scout movement within the African American community in Duval County, the campaign for Camp Chanyata, and the individuals and organizations whose courage, confidence, and character made Girl Scouting possible for girls through the decades.

The exhibit will open with a Celebration Reception at the Ritz Theatre and Museum, Monday, March 5, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. The reception will feature additional Girl Scout materials on display that evening only, a chance to visit with members of the Girl Scout community, music and refreshments. There is no charge for the reception, but reservations are required. RSVP to jhirshan@girlscouts-gateway.org or call Julie at 904-421-3486.

After March 5, the exhibit will be open during regular museum hours: Tuesday-Friday, 10 a.m.-5 p.m. and Saturday 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. Regular museum entrance fees apply. Guided tours for groups of 25 or more are available. Call 904-632-5555, ext. 228 or visit www.ritzjacksonville.com.

  Enrichment Training Spotlight

Time Management

Learn to use strategic time investment strategy to focus priorities while balancing Girl Scout and personal commitments. We will discuss steps to avoid the "kiss of yes" and learn how to say "no" creatively. Learn how to encourage your girls and parents to have a plan of their own and establish an early warning system to identify problems and help manage priority shifts.  Participants can join this chat using a telephone or telephone/computer. Check to see when the next chat will be in the Adult Learning Opportunities Book.

Girl Scouts of Gateway Council offers several trainings online, such as: Delegate Training, Taking Trips with Girls, and SHARE. If you have trouble viewing an online training, please contact training@girlscouts-gateway.org and the Adult Learning Department can mail you a cd.

Training for New Volunteers
Basic Leadership Training Changes

We have an exciting new training for our new volunteer leaders! Now, all new leaders and co-leaders will be required to take one new online training: Girl Scouting 101 - and one in-class course, Troop Pathways. New leaders will no longer have to take Leadership Essentials, and existing leaders do not have to complete the Girl Scouting 101 online, but are welcome to!

Don't have internet access to complete Girl Scouting 101? Contact Shelly skronen@girlscouts-gateway.org at the Jacksonville Service Center or Terry tgustafson@girlscouts-gateway.org at the Gainesville service center to receive a Girl Scouting 101 cd or even make arrangements to come into the Jacksonville Service Center or Gainesville Service Center to complete the training using one of our computers.
