Spotlight on a Stonewall Grantee:

The Center for Anti-Violence Education (CAE) works as a catalyst for change in the lives of women, transgender people, teen women, children, and other communities especially affected by violence. CAE's programs are designed to develop participants' skills, knowledge, and awareness to enable them to heal from, prevent, and counter violence. We do this work to actively create a peaceful, just, and equitable world.  To find out more about The Center for Anti-Violence Education click here.

 Our most successful

Stonewall Swim ever!

2011 swimmers

On Saturday, August 13, forty-nine remarkably brave and amazingly fit swimmers swam from Sayville to the Fire Island Pines to raise money for the Stonewall Community Foundation.  Fifty-one kayakers also made the 3.5 mile trek across the Great South Bay to help support the swimmers and provide them with personal encouragement.  Together, all of this year's participants raised over $150,000 for the Stonewall Community Foundation!

We'd like to extend a special thanks to our swim committee members: Alan Brodherson, Charlie Carson, Shane Ewen, Robert Faust, Charlie Finlay, Ed Preato, Peter Riley, Valerie Riley and Matthew Ryan.  Without their hard work and dedication, this event would not have been possible.  We'd also like to thank the Gene & John Athletic Fund of Stonewall and Richard Winger & Michael Lucas for being our swim underwriters.

The website for the swim, www.stonewallswim.org, is still live, so please consider making a congratulatory donation to any participants you may know.

Meet our new Board Member,

Hany Awadalla

Hany Awadalla At July's Board of Directors Meeting, Hany Awadalla was elected as the newest member of the board.  Hany served as co-chair of this year's Vision Dinner and deserves much credit for making the 2011 Stonewall Vision Dinner a great success.  A graduate of Columbia University and the Wharton School of Business at the University of Pennsylvania, Hany is a Managing Director at Opus National Capital Markets.

About Stonewall Community Foundation:

The Stonewall Community Foundation is the public charity for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer (LBGTQ) New Yorkers. We strengthen the LGBTQ community from within as we empower donors, support community leaders and develop dynamic organizations. We work to build a stronger LGBTQ New York via: inspired and thoughtful giving; leadership and community development; and legacy development through endowments, scholarships, trusts and funds. Since our founding in 1990, the Stonewall Community Foundation has awarded more than $15 million in grants to more than 450 LGBT organizations. Through strategic investment, the Stonewall Community Foundation works not only to make life better for LGBTQ New Yorkers today but also promises to provide for future generations the funds necessary to deal with whatever may come our way.
