FREE Flat-Changing Clinic This Saturday!

Mark your calendars.  This Saturday we'll have a free flat-changing clinic from 10-12.  See the details below.  This is your chance to finally learn how to change your own flat tire.

We also have a full range of race wheels available to rent throughzipp wheels 2 our Race Wheel Rental Program.  If you're looking for that extra edge in your next triathlon, no component on your bike increases your speed like a fast set of wheels.

Finally, if you're looking to fill a few weekends with some quality events, we have put together a list of some organized rides and triathlons in the area that we'd recommend.

See you on the roads,

The Staff of The Bicycle Wheel

Ask the Experts

Q:  "The tires on my road bike say 700x23c.  I have some tubes that say 700x18-23 and other tubes that say 700x23-25.  Which size is the correct one?"

ask experts may 11

"Experts"

A:  When determining the correct tubes for your tire, the most important element is the diameter.  In this case, we have a 700c wheel, which is pretty standard for a road bike.  The second number denotes the width of the tire or tube.  A 23 tire is slighltly narrower than a 25 tire.

So, while a 700x18-23 tube will work, our opinion is that a 700x23-25 tube will work better since it is the same diameter but a little "fatter" and less prone to stretching out under the high pressures of a road tire.

When shopping for tubes, know that tires are sold in exact sizes (26 x 1.5", 700 x 38c), while tubes are sold to fit a range of tires.  Our advice is to use the largest width tube for your particular tire size.  Doing so will lessen the chance of flats.

Learn to become a flat changing "zen master" with help from The Bicycle Wheel.

It's time to learn how to change a flat.

You know you need to learn it sooner or later.  No more hoping that you won't get a flat.  No more carrying your cell phone with you on your bike in case you get a flat so you can call someone to pick you up and bring you to the bike shop.  That gets old real quick.

So, let's take care of it this Saturday, July 30th!  We'll begin at 10:00 and teach you everything you need to know, including what you need to have with you to avoid those roadside calls.

You are welcome to bring your bike and flat-changing stuff, if you have it.  We'll show you how to use it on your own bike.

If you don't have your own flat-changing gear, don't worry.  We'll have plenty of spare tubes, pumps, tire levers, saddle bags & CO2s ready for sale and we'll show you how to use all of it.

Registration is simple - just show up!
