Gas Prices Got You Down?

BWLOGO_2C - resized
As gas prices continue to climb throughout the summer, bicycles are becoming an attractive option for running basic errands or commuting to work.  We are seeing a huge increase in demand for good quality entry-level bicycles that can be outfitted with baskets and lights for short trips.

As most of the bike industry continues to focus on high-end racing bikes, we will continue to focus on you and your family and providing you with the most value for your dollar.  Since our doors opened, we have never lost our focus on entry-level and family bikes and will continue to do so as your dollars are stretched further.

Happy Riding!

Tip of the Month:  Proper Seat Height

To improve your cycling efficiency and enjoyment while avoiding injuries, you need to ensure your seat height is at the correct height.  Here are some tips for adjusting your seat height:

Put on your riding shoes and position your bike next to a counter or a doorway.  Hop on yourseat height - heal. bike, balance yourself so that you and your bike are upright, and then put your heel on your pedal in its lowest position (see top image).

For optimal seat height, your leg should be able to fully extend in this position. This way, when you are pedaling on the balls of your feet, your leg will be able to do the most work without hurting your knees.

If you feel pain in the back of your knees while pedaling, or your hips are rocking back and forth to reach your pedals, your seat is too high.seat height - tip toe

Conversely, if you feel knee pain in front of your knee, your seat might be too low.

When your seat is properly adjusted, your toes will barely touch the ground when fully seated on the bicycle (see bottom image).

If you need any kind of adjustment or more information on seat height, call or stop by The Bicycle Wheel today.  We are your first and last stop for all of your cycling needs!
