Dear Friends and Family,

MayAnother birthday is upon me! Wow, how fast the year goes by.

This month brings a lot of outdoor events and festivals. I hope that you all can join me at some or all of them. Most of them will allow you to bring your furry friends with you! That always makes everyone happy.

Cypress, Cedar, Pine or Cocoa?

Watering Can

With spring comes the inevitable task of adding mulch to our flower beds. One type of mulch that you definitely want to stay away from if you have cats or dogs is called cocoa mulch. It contains a lethal ingredient called Theobromine.

To find out more details about this type of mulch and the dangers it presents to cats and dogs, please click here.

New Stamps Released April 30th -

On April 30th these new stamps featuring former shelter pets were released by the Post Office.

Pet Stamps

In conjunction with the launch of these new stamps, Halo (Ellen DeGeneres' pet food company) has agreed to donate 1 million meals to animal shelters around the country.

For more information on these stamps and the campaign, please click here.

Paw-ty!!!

Party Cat

Have you ever thought about having a party for your pet or family member to celebrate a special occasion and asking your guests to make a donation to a charitable cause rather than bringing a gift?

Beth decided to celebrate her dog Gabby's birthday with a paw-ty. Instead of bringing Gabby a gift, Beth asked each guest to make a donation to the local animal welfare group she specified in her invitation. Through the help of sponsors and guests, Beth and Gabby were able to present the animal welfare group with a check for $1,230.00.

From my experience with charitable groups, this type of donation can certainly go a long way.
