SUAG Header
Greetings!

Congratulations-you have helped make Shape Up & Go! a wellness force for you and your fellow Clinic mates! You can drink the champagne--your steps top ONE BILLION combined (not individually)! So far during this challenge, you have a reported 7,700 pound total weight loss (not individually, much as you may have wanted a bigger share of that-but WOW). That's a testament to the power of your teamwork! Time and time again, you and your teammates have stepped up and supported each other to make this another successful program. And you have one more week to make yourself a bigger winner: So go finish strong. You can make it even better.

If you missed a couple of days-or even a round-it's not too late to submit your data and support your team through the end of the challenge. Give each other an encouraging push as the conclusion of the challenge draws near! Don't forget that in addition to the chance of winning a trip to New York for the Dr. Oz show there will also be cash prizes for top teams in each category. The top ten teams from each category who have completed all 5 rounds of the competition will be entered into a drawing:

  • Two of the top teams will receive a generous cash prize

  • The GRAND PRIZE for one team is an exciting trip to New York City for the Dr. Oz show.

And guess what -the Oz show producers love your success so much they will specially honor all of you in a shout out to the Cleveland Clinic Shape Up & Go! challenge. WOW-even more ways the Clinic can lead and motivate the nation, and again it's because of how great our employees are!  You probably know abstractly you deliver the best medical care, and you do and can take pride in that.  And, you are one of the top health care organizations in the nation for generosity to United Way.  But in addition, now you are an example of how employees can take the bull by the horns and be healthier. WOW. You should be proud of yourself and your fellow CC'ers.

This week's joke:

A second grader came home from school and said to her grandmother, "Grandma, guess what? We learned how to make babies today."

The grandmother, more than a little surprised, tried to keep her cool. "That's interesting," she said, "how do you make babies?"

"It's simple," replied the girl. "You just change 'y' to 'i' and add 'es'."

Until next week, keep smiling and keep on moving! Keep up the great work, keep the jokes coming, and most of all keep smiling! Send your jokes to youdocs@gmail.com.

Yours in Health,
Cleveland Clinic Employee Wellness

Holler!(Days) and How to Manage Seasonal Stress
According to the Merriam-Webster Dictionary, the word holiday describes a day when one is free from work, or a day to commemorate an event, or a period of relaxation-even a vacation. Does this sound like your holiday? We didn't think so, either! It's amazing that even after hundreds of years, many people still try to live up to an unrealistic expectation of perfectly trimmed trees, turkeys, and presents. Bah Humbug! We have some tips to help you juggle your hectic "holidays".

Understanding What, Why & How Much to Eat
If you're typical, you believe that the way to achieve a healthy weight is to focus on what you eat. Whether you've been told to cut fat or calories from your diet or to nix the dairy or wheat, most likely you're concentrating on which foods are in and which are out. Truth is, while that's step one, focusing on food alone probably won't work. Paying attention to how and why you eat is just as important for both weight-reduction efforts and long-term maintenance.
