SUAG Header
Greetings!

We are off to a running start-well, a walking start--with you and 4,000 of your co-workers competing for a great set of prizes and personal rewards in this exciting challenge. Many new teams have joined the fun along with veteran participants. Vets, we love your dedication and achievements. But don't think that means we won't look at your successes-and don't get too comfortable, as the newest members are working hard to beat you.Past results show that teams that make significant progress in the first round tend to achieve the best overall results.

One more prize has been added! In addition to the trip to New York for the Dr. Oz show there will be three cash prizes:

Added Team Cash Prize: One team will be randomly drawn from among all teams with 100% of their members completing all 5 rounds of the competition.

Other Team Cash Prizes Remain the Same: One team will be randomly drawn from among the top ten teams in the exercise category AND one team will be randomly drawn from among the top ten teams in the pedometer steps category.

Have you checked out the new features? Create a plan to "meet for a quick walk during a break" or "join a few friends to shoot some hoops". And everyone loves our easy to make Go! Foods recipes and text message reporting. Each competition has a different twist and we're always interested in any ideas that you have to make Shape Up & Go! even better!

We interrupt this message for the Jokes of the Week from TAP about grandparents:
  • She was in the bathroom, putting on her makeup, under the watchful eyes of her young granddaughter, as she'd done many times before. After she applied her lipstick and started to leave, the little one said, "But Gramma, you forgot to kiss the toilet paper good-bye!" I will probably never put lipstick on again without thinking about kissing the toilet paper good-bye...

  • My young grandson called the other day to wish me Happy Birthday. He asked me how old I was, and I told him, 63. My grandson was quiet for a moment, and then he asked, "Did you start at 1?"

  • After putting her grandchildren to bed, a grandmother changed into old slacks and a droopy blouse and proceeded to wash her hair. As she heard the children getting more and more rambunctious, her patience grew thin. Finally, she threw a towel around her head and stormed into their room, putting them back to bed with stern warnings. As she left the room, she heard the three-year-old say with a trembling voice, "Who was THAT?"

Once again our hats are off to the creative team names. Here we are a few that keep us laughing and hopefully keep you chuckling as well:

From Dermatology & Plastic Surgery - Droop Therapy
Lerner Research - Fit Femmes & Buff Beau
Medina Hospital - IDEAL SPECIMENS
A "combined team" - the NAUTI Mermaids

Keep up the great work, keep the jokes coming, and most of all keep smiling!

Fitting Fast Foods into a Healthy Diet
Takeout Americans love eating out. On a typical day, more than 130 million will be food service patrons. Sales in 2009 are expected to reach $566 billion at over 945,000 locations.

While home-cooked meals are better for your health and pocketbook, it is clear that many of do not have the time to make that choice. Better restaurant menu labeling laws may be around the corner, but in the mean time here are some ways to fit fast foods into a healthy diet.
Exercise Tip - Deadlifts
The muscles of the lower back are part of the "core" muscles in your trunk. They often go unnoticed because so much attention is paid to the abdominal muscles. Strengthening your lower back muscles helps with muscle balance and postural stability, and in some cases can reduce or eliminate back pain. Besides strengthening the lower back, the Deadlift exercise below strengthens the lower body muscles.
