Round Three Is Complete!
  • Login and click on "Goals & Data Submission" to submit your results. Your results for Round Three must be submitted by 11:59 PM on Tuesday, March 17, St. Patrick's Day--and be sure to do it before you have imbibed too much!

  • You may also report your results by calling 1.877.881.0085 or by giving your log sheet to your team captain, who can enter results on your behalf if he/she is sober at the time of submission! (Only kidding, captains never consume too much, even on St. Patrick's Day!)

  • Team Standings will be published on Wednesday and announced by email.
Dear Friends,

You are now at the halfway point of your twelve-week team challenge! Go Cavs! (That's not a Cleveland Clinic team that I know of....) To mark this milestone, meet with your team for a healthy meal or lunchtime walk. Working together maintains motivation. There's no time for pausing -- in just six short weeks you can celebrate together at the finish line!

Everywhere, we see Cleveland Clinic employees walking, eating healthy, and exercising at the fitness centers together. Shape Up & Go! is hopefully part of your day. We've heard from some about how this program has changed your life. At the midpoint of the competition, we'd like to invite you to share your personal story. Email us a quick note (support@shapeupandgo.org or youdocs@gmail.com) to describe the changes you've made over the past six weeks and your plan for success during the next six--and beyond.

And now for the joke of the week... we'd like to thank runners up Doris Ruthrauff and Ann Stephenson, and now two-time winner (she gets another, but different, YOU book), Diane Woods!

No one believes seniors . . . everyone thinks they are senile.

An elderly couple was celebrating their 60th anniversary. The couple had married as childhood sweethearts and had moved back to their old neighborhood after they retired.

Holding hands, they walked back to their old school. It wasn't locked, so they entered and found the old 2-seater desk they'd shared, where Andy had carved 'I love you, Sally.'

On their way back home, a bag of money fell out of an armored car, practically landing at their feet. Sally quickly picked it up.  Not sure what to do with it, they took it home. There, Sally counted the money--fifty-thousand dollars. Andy said, "We've got to give it back." Sally said, "Finders keepers." She put the money back in the bag and hid it in their attic.

The next day, two FBI men were canvassing the neighborhood looking for the money and knocked on the door. "Pardon me, but did either of you find a bag that fell out of an armored car yesterday?"

Sally said, "No."

Andy said, "She's lying. She hid it up in the attic."

Sally said, "Don't believe him; he's getting senile."

The agents turned to Andy and began to question him.
One of the FBI agents said, "Tell us the story,...from the beginning"
Andy said, "Well, when Sally and I were walking home from school yesterday......"

The first FBI guy turns to his partner and says, "We're outta here."

MyPyramid.gov: Portion Distortion
Are your eyes bigger than your stomach?

The portion you eat or drink may be larger than you think. Keep tabs on how much you eat. Go with  smaller amounts. And/or, try these tips--the choice is yours!
  • The smaller your plate, the smaller your portion. Eat your meals at home on a smaller plate. Before going back for seconds, wait 25 or 30 minutes. Y.ou might not want seconds after all.

  • Dish it out. When you order fast food, picture the food on a plate. Even better, take it home and put it on a plate. If you're surprised at how full the plate looks, order smaller sizes next time.

  • Portion out your snack on a plate, not from the bag, to stay aware of how much you're eating.

  • When dining out, order an appetizer instead of an entree. If you order an entree, take half home, refrigerate and enjoy another meal or a snack tomorrow. (Not tonight, buster.)  Or at least have sex before you allow yourself more food!

  • Buy or portion out treats and snacks in very small bags or packages.
Motivation: Don't Give Up!
AffirmationWinston Churchill once said, "Never give in! Never give in! Never, never, never. Never -- in anything great or small, large or petty -- never give in except to convictions of honor and good sense."

These are strong words to use daily for motivation!  You've come this far on your fitness journey - stay strong, and gain speed-you're on the downhill slope now! Persistence makes you successful. You and your team will most likely face some ups - and some downs - but stay strong.  You and your team can do it!

By now you have gained skills to help you overcome stumbling. Hope you have a firm network of support. If not, lean on teammates. Stay in contact with your team, family members and friends who support you, and read your goals out loud every day.
