Dear Neighbor,

Last night the Chicago Public Schools and the Chicago Teachers Union did not reach an agreement on a contract, which has resulted in a strike that began Monday morning.

I encourage and hope that both sides will continue to negotiate and resolve this matter. But of utmost concern is the security of our children. The Chicago Public Schools are offering 144 "Children First" locations to provide supervision for children. In addition, libraries, community organizations and parks will offer programs for students. It is best to call ahead to ensure that there is space for your child.
