Springfield Update
 Dear Concerned Neighbor,

Since I have heard from so many of you about both the ethics bill and the budget cuts, I wanted to let you know that it's official -- Senate President Emil Jones will be calling us back to session next week.  This decision comes after Senator Obama called the Senate President to encourage him to reconvene the Illinois Senate to override the Governor's amendatory vetoes to the Ethics Bill.

We have a regular session scheduled for noon on Monday.  Additionally, the Governor has called a special session to begin Monday at 1 pm.  This session is also to discuss the ethics legislation.  It's not clear if we will address the budget issues as well (that is my - as well as many of my colleagues - desire).  I will send an update when the session is complete.

Best,
Heather Steans

Front Desk Receptionist Needed - A volunteer is needed to staff the front desk in the office that I share with Alderman Mary Ann Smith and Congresswoman Jan Schakowsky on Friday afternoons.  The volunteer will need to answer phones and welcome visitors to the office.  Contact Jen at jen@heathersteans.com or call 773-769-1717 for more information.

Fall Interns

I am excited to have a number of new fall interns in my senate district office.  We will be introducing all of them during the fall semester.  Interns play an invaluable role in my office in researching constituent questions and legislative ideas.
