OneWorld Classrooms has been featured in a new book by Susan Skog, The Give Back Solution: Create a Better World with Your Time, Talents, and Travel (Whether You Have $10 or $10,000), Copyright 2009 by Sourcebooks. We are honored to be included in this inspiring and important book and hope you'll go out and get a copy!
About the Book
Here is the book cover overview:
Reaching out and supporting others brings out the best in all of us. Giving back strengthens our world-but the under-appreciated secret is that it lifts us up, too. Part call-to-action, part inspiration, part practical research guide to make-a-difference opportunities, The Give-Back Solution captures the idealism and generosity sweeping our country, even in the face of serious challenges.
With amazing stories of everyday volunteers having the time of their lives giving back, social change leader Susan Skog shows how you can join the groundswell of goodwill, whether you volunteer abroad or support efforts locally, and whatever your time, talents, or resources.

McGraw Hill Lends OWC a Hand!
McGraw-Hill employees help OWC send over 1,200 pieces of student artwork to participating schools around the world.
In May, 2009, McGraw Hill helped OneWorld Classrooms send student artwork to all corners of the globe. Each May, McGraw Hill's Community Partners group coordinates a worldwide community service initiative called Global Volunteer Day. Five employees from the Bedford, MA McGraw Hill offices, group leader and OWC Board President Kimberly Pumyea, Chris Gaudreau, Jacque Moulding, Christina Orlandi and Diana Pina, gathered at the Brooks School campus in North Andover, MA to help OneWorld Classrooms coordinate the latest round of our International Art Exchange.
The volunteers helped scan and assemble over 1,200 pieces of K-12 student artwork submitted by 55 schools from 25 countries around the globe. With the scans, OWC created a Google Earth tour featuring all of the schools, over 250 pieces of the artwork, 80 photos and 40 teacher and student letters. It is available online at www.oneworldclassrooms.org/iae2.kmz.
On behalf of all participating teachers and students around the world, and the OWC Board of Directors and staff, we offer our most heartfelt thanks to Kim, the volunteers and McGraw Hill for their very valuable support!
Students in Albania share their artwork, with a helping hand from McGraw-Hill employees in northeastern MA. |
