Our friends at Cross Cultural Collaborative, a nonprofit based in Brookline, MA and Accra, Ghana, are offering travel opportunities for artists and teachers this summer. For more information, please read and follow the links below.

CROSS CULTURAL COLLABORATIVE is an educational non-profit that invites people to Ghana to interact with others from different cultures through creative exchange. We promote cultural collaboration and understanding by creating an environment of exciting ideas and universal connections. There are opportunities to live and work on a personal level with Ghanaians at a cultural center in a fishing village in a suburb of Accra. The programs vary from volunteer opportunities working with local children, Indigenous textile workshops, tours and placements in traditional villages.

The co-directors are from backgrounds in education:

Ellie Schimelman graduated from RISD with a degree in Art Education and was an art supervisor and crafts teacher in American schools. Besides her skills as a teacher, she offers herself as a liaison between two very different cultures.

Kwao Adipah is a director in the Ghana Ministry of Education and writes art curriculum for the schools. His is also a talented writer and illustrator of children's books.

One of the most popular offerings each summer is a teachers tour. For two weeks participants interact with Ghanaian teachers, students, visit schools and have meetings with people in the Ministry of Education. There are opportunities to write their own curriculum, to set up relationships with Ghanaian schools, and to experience the culture through local food, drumming and dancing and participation in the activities of Ghanaians. There are also visits to sites of historic and cultural significance.

Ellie and Kwao promise a life changing experience.
