Tomorrow is a historic day not just for America, but for everyone the world over. I cannot vote as I am a British subject, and I cannot endorse because as pastor of a progressive church we would be open to IRS investigation; what I can do is offer prayer, and hope that you take a moment when you read this to join me...
Almighty, Loving God - Father and Mother of us all - touch our hearts of stone and give us hearts of flesh as we seek your will in setting a leader over this nation in Your Name. Cleanse from our hearts all self interest; help us to see each other as You see us - beloved, adored children of God, equal in value. Touch all who would seek for gain over justice, hatred over hope and fear over compassion. Send Your Spirit of Wisdom that dwelt in Solomon and David, Job and Isaiah; let it dwell within all hearts tomorrow. May all in California that treasure the gift of marriage see the value and the blessing of spreading that gift to all who seek it; remind us that my freedom does not diminish that of my brother or sister. Make us anew in Christ Jesus. Amen
