Governor Vetoes State Budget |
On June 15th, the state senate and assembly passed a series of bills that make up the fiscal year 2011-2012 state budget and sent them to Governor Brown for his signature. However, the governor has since vetoed the main budget bills (SB 69 and AB 98), stating, "I am vetoing it today because I don't want to see billions more in borrowing, legal maneuvers that are questionable, and a budget that will not stand the test of time." Throughout the budget process, many proposals were made that would have impacted IHSS consumers and providers, along with other members of the senior and disability communities. Some of the proposals were passed through a series of budget trailer bills that were signed into law by the governor in March. The budget bills sent to the governor last week did not include any additional changes or cuts the IHSS and Medi-Cal Programs. However, with the governor's veto of SB 69 and AB 98, it is uncertain whether or not any additional cuts will be proposed.
Additional information on the budget situation will be posted on our website at www.pascla.org as it becomes available.

PASC I & R Is Here to Help You |
Do you need assistance finding services that are outside of IHSS? PASC's Information and Referral Program for IHSS consumers and providers is here to help you. If an IHSS consumer or provider needs assistance and does not know where to turn, he/she may call PASC at 877-565-4477 and ask to speak to someone in the Information and Referral department. Our I & R staff have access to a wealth of knowledge about social services in L.A. County and can help you find the right program or service that meets your needs. Below are some examples of how we can help.
Mr. F. found himself homeless for the first time and didn't know where to turn for assistance. He called PASC and requested help getting off the street. I & R staff were able to refer Mr. F. to several programs, including the county's Homelessness Prevention and Rapid Re-Housing Program. As a result, Mr. F. was able to find temporary shelter while he gets back on his feet.
While attending a free information seminar conducted by I & R staff, Ms. L. asked for assistance finding out about congregate meal programs in her community. PASC was able to refer Ms. L. to a local senior center. I & R staff later visited the same center and spotted Ms. L. enjoying lunch and talking with new friends.
By partnering with other networks throughout the county, the I & R Department has assisted consumers with finding medical equipment and supplies, grab bars to install in their homes, services for children with autism and other developmental disabilities, and assistance with many other issues. If the I & R Department has helped you, give us a call and let us know!
