Has Your Provider been Enrolled?
time is money
Current providers must be enrolled by Dec. 31st

Legislation passed in 2009 requires all IHSS providers to complete an enrollment process before becoming eligible for payment.  Providers must complete a Provider Enrollment Form, attend a provider orientation meeting, complete a Provider Enrollment Agreement stating that they understand and agree to the program's rules and requirements, and clear a Criminal Background Investigation (CBI). Homecare workers who were providing services before the implementation of the new requirements were given until December 31, 2010 to complete the enrollment process if they wished to continue receiving payment through IHSS.

PASC has worked closely with the Department of Public Social Services to ensure that all providers have had the opportunity to complete the enrollment process. As of December 1st, approximately 140,000 new and current providers have completed the process. However, it is estimated that nearly 9,000 current providers have still not completed every step.

If your provider is getting paid, but does not complete the enrollment process by December 31st, he or she will be terminated by the state as your IHSS homecare worker. If your provider decides that he or she does not wish to comply with the enrollment requirements, and you need assistance finding a new homecare worker, please call the PASC Homecare Registry at 877-565-4477. Additional information on the Registry can also be found in the "Registry" section of PASC's website at www.pascla.org.

Low-cost Dental Plans Available

dentist2Although preventive dental care starts at home with proper brushing and flossing, a regular trip to the dentist can help in identifying and stopping dental disease in its earliest stages. The American Dental Association (ADA) recommends that adults receive a minimum of two dental checkups with professional cleaning each year.  If you don't take care of your teeth and visit your dentist, you may find yourself in pain and forced to get expensive dental restoration care.

Dentalplans.com provides referrals to low-cost dental plan packages that can help you save money and meet your dental needs. This nationwide service connects individuals with dental plans and dentists who have agreed to accept a discounted fee from plan members as payment in full for services performed. Discount dental plans are designed for individuals, families and groups looking to save money on their dental care needs.

Some samples of the plans available include:

Signature Wellness Plan (dental only)

· Individual Plan: $114.95 per year
· Family Plan: $169.95 per year

Aetna Dental Access

· Individual Program: $104.95 per year
· Family Program: $159.95 per year

Preferred Network Access by CIGNA
· Individual Plan: $134.95 per year
· Family Plan: $189.95 per year

Additional information on each plan, including a breakdown of cost savings, can be found at the DentalPlans.com website, www.dentalplans.com. If you are a consumer with a Share of Cost (SOC), you may want to consult with your Medi-Cal worker to see if the cost of a dental plan can be deducted from your countable monthly income, which would lower your monthly SOC payments.

Elder Abuse Prevention Toolkit

The San Gabriel Valley YWCA has developed a new toolkit on preventing elder abuse, designed to increase the public's knowledge and awareness of abuse. The kit can be used by seniors, persons with disabilities, family members, and caregivers to help create safe home environments and decrease the incident rate of abuse.
