Our summer harvest is in full pitch as we harvest our heirloom tomatoes in various colors, green zebras, yellow taxi's, small pear and plum tomatoes from our side yard. It is more orderly that our kitchen as we have finally been remodeling the kitchen (as my friends say, "you actually did it!"). I have learned A LOT about it and really am pleased with the results. We are looking to move back in in a week or so and I am ready!

In the business realm, we have been working hard to expand our offerings. I am pleased to report that we have a location in Seattle to do our classes and you will see them on Tuesdays this fall. A brand new way to experience food is our new Dine, Learn and Cook series. I have found that it is more fun to explore a new restaurant or eat at a favorite with a few of my like minded friends and students. So we are out to introduce each of you to a new place to dine and yet I want you to be able to cook this new cuisine in your own kitchen. So I have invited the chef to come and teach us about their culture, cuisine and new techniques in our new Seattle Location the week after. Now you can eat it first, know what it tastes like and then learn to cook it in your own kitchen. We are featuring the following chefs and restaurants:

Julia's Indonesian Kitchen with Julia Suparman and Yusi Sasmitra
Phnom Penh Noodle House with Sam Ung
Mashiko Japanese Restaurant and Sustainable Sushi Bar with Hajime Sato

Check it out, we dine and cook once per month. This is my way of generating new diners for our economy while keeping you content in your own kitchen. Two missions and pleasure in it all! We all get to dine out and eat in. I hope you will join us this fall with our inaugural launch of these experiences. I am looking forward to having you join me.

I also want to mention--Mashiko Japanese Restaurant and Sushi Bar is going completely sustainable. What does that mean? Well many of you are students and patrons of our instructor, Hajime Sato and he is bringing to his sushi restaurant the gifts of the sea that are provided, harvested or raised in a way that does not cause harm to the planet. His soft opening is August 15th. Check it out! He will also do a Dine, Learn and Cook Experience with us in November for just 10 folks. Please sign up early so you won't miss out.

ICS operates four critical programs, including a food bank (South Lake Union's only food bank), a community lunch, a hygiene program and a residential recovery program.
