Cultivating Innovation in Family Firms
What is your family business "known for" in your community and beyond? Reliability, long-term relationships, and a solid reputation? While these are admirable and coveted qualities, family businesses too often operate by the mantra, "If it ain't broke, don't fix it" and are satisfied with the status quo.
So what about innovation? Has your firm's strategy led to a transformation in the strategy, the culture, the products/services, and the way you "do business"? Family businesses tend to become more risk-adverse as the company matures. In that process, the concept of innovation often does not get proper focus, support, or funding.
