Greetings!
Planning vacations can be fun or can be very stressful. So many details, including budget, kids, other family members and our prized pets. Some years we travel when we can take Holly with us in the car and she always enjoys that. We have even gone on extended trips and had our dogs fly with us. Rent a station wagon on the other end and find Pet Friendly hotels and campgrounds.
When your vacation does not include Fluffy or Rover, what to do? There are some great kennels with caring owners, pet camps with lots of other dogs (no cats), friends and relatives, or pet sitters.
Obviously my goal is to convince you that pet sitting is not only comfortable to your pets, but may be an economical choice.
Kennels - The day before you leave on your vacation you have to drive Fluffy and Rover to the kennel. Bring their toys and beds (if they let you, food, medications). When you get back from vacation the kennel is closed and you have to wait until the next day to get Fluffy and Rover. That add two Extra nights to the Kennel Bill. With a Pet Sitter, you only pay for the visits while you are gone.
Pet Camps - Same as above, but does Rover get along well with others? Does he share? Are you going to get a call in the middle of your vacation saying "Rover can't Play with Other's, he is being sent to solitary confinement", which means another charge. If you are lucky, he hasn't caused any damage to other animals or picked-up any critters to deal with at home later.
Friends - I have to admit, I have the best friends. They love Holly coming to "Doggy Camp" at their house. There is no charge and they spoil her. (Maybe a few pounds put on eating the Frosty Paws). This "Doggy Camp" usually costs me about $50.00 in trinkets picked-up during the vacation - T-Shirts, LIquor, Food, etc.
Relatives - Now this may be the biggest expense of all. Having the meddling mother-in-law picking up your mail and going through your closets, or the neice that brings in her friends to your house for a party her parents don't know about. You are asking friends and relatives to come out in bad weather to take care of your cats, dogs, fish, hamsters, turtles, plants.........
So go plan that great vacation and leave the worries, fun and caring to us.
